Maruti 800 Modified To Set A Gymkhana Ablaze

Maruti 800 is the car that actually kick-started the Indian automotive scene. It holds the record for second-longest production-run for a car in the country. It was introduced for the first time in the year 1983 and was on sale until 2014. However, it is tough to come across a neat and well-maintained example now, as most of them have either made their way to a scrap yard or to a collector’s garage. We found one at the latter, and it has been modified to set examples for other 800 owners. It belongs to Mr Yadhukrishnan V U, who hails from Thrissur, Kerala.

Talking of the modifications performed on this Maruti 800, they are extensive. It now gets the Suzuki Mehran (Maruti 800 is sold as Mehran in Pakistan) grille at the front. The headlamps on this Maruti 800 have been smoked out and are retrofitted with LED elements. The bumper here is a custom-made unit, which now gets an extended front splitter. Also, a set of dual-function LED DRL is fixed in the bumper. Like the front headlamps, the tail lamps are also custom-made units.

Moving over to the sides, one can see that this Maruti 800 now sits on a set of 15-inch 8J deep-dish style rims. They are shod with 205 section rubber with an aspect ratio of 45. Also, it has been lowered with the use of custom lowering springs. Thus, it gets a hunkered-down stance with its wheels completely filling the wheel wells. Moreover, side skirts can also be seen screwed to the rocker panels, hence completing the look of this Maruti 800. The green paint job you see here is not factory-spec either.

Under the hood, things mostly remain the same except for a custom exhaust system. For those who don’t know, Maruti 800 was offered with a 796 cc 3-pot petrol motor. Naturally aspirated of course. It used to belt out a peak power output of 37 BHP and max torque of 59 Nm. The transmission duties were performed by a 4-speed manual gearbox, however, a 5-speed MT and 2-speed AT was also offered for a short duration.
