Maruti 800 was the first car to be produced under the Maruti Suzuki name in India. What if this car is reintroduced with an electric powertrain? Check out the latest rendering of the electric Maruti 800.

Maruti 800 was one of the most important products in Maruti Suzuki’s history. This iconic nameplate is long gone. However, it would come as no surprise if Maruti Suzuki wants to revive this lost model. Recently, a digital render artist has created a rendering of the Maruti 800, but this time it is imagined in its electric avatar.

Maruti 800 came into existence in 1983. It was also the first model from Maruti Suzuki to go on sale in the Indian market. Manufactured at Maruti’s Gurgaon-based manufacturing facility, the 800 had quickly become the hottest car in the market. Back in the day, Maruti 800 shared the space with other memorable models like the Hindustan Ambassador and Fiat Padmini. It would not be an overstatement to say that it was the Maruti 800 that set the foundation stone for Maruti’s dominant position in the Indian market. It was estimated that there were around 2.87 million units of the 800 produced and 2.66 million units sold in the domestic market during its production run of over 30 years.

The Maruti 800, without a doubt, still hold a certain impact on Indian customers' mind. Apparently, Maruti can still take advantage of the 800’s legacy by relaunching this model in a contemporary avatar. Especially, given that the same strategy has been applied various times before and had yielded an undeniably positive result. For example, Hyundai has revived its oldest nameplate, the Santro under a new form. The new Hyundai Santro has quickly gained popularity in the entry-level hatchback segment.

Maruti 800 is imagined as an electric vehicle

Based on this idea, Yogi Sejwal Design has given it a try and given us a digital rendering of the Maruti 800 in an electrified avatar. The render version carries forward the characteristics of the original Maruti 800, which gives the car a retro look. The rendering artist has used a dual-tone colour scheme for this electric Maruti 800. Thus creating a modern and sporty appeal for the old design.

The front end of the car is basically similar to the original version but adapts some new features like LED headlights and DRLs. The grille and front bumper are revised. Since it is an electric vehicle, the simplified grille serves as a decorative feature rather than a functional part of the car. On the side profile, this Maruti 800 gets blacked-out wheels and sleek ORVMs. The wheel arches also look more pronounced and muscular. On the rear end, the electric Maruti 800 sports a roof spoiler. Whether the Maruti 800 will be resurrected or not remains to be seen. However, based on the market needs, reviving this iconic nameplate isn't a pointless idea.
