Check out this video in which a Maruti Baleno and Wagon R drag race against each other. The results are not at all what you’d expect!

While a majority of the car-buying population prioritises comfort and practicality over everything else, there are a few enthusiasts who favour performance. Sadly, the Indian car market is extremely limited in terms of performance cars. Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer, specialises in cars that offer comfort, practicality, and fuel efficiency. Performance is not a word you would usually associate with a Maruti car. That being said, enthusiasts all over the country are still able to extract decent performance figures out of these passenger cars. Here, we have a drag race between a Maruti Baleno and a Maruti Wagon R, two of the most popular passenger cars in India.

Drag Race : Baleno Vs WagonR 2020 | Arun Panwar

The video above has been posted by Arun Panwar on his YouTube channel. Here, we have a Maruti Baleno ‘Zeta’ trim and a base variant Maruti Wagon R ‘LXi’. The Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated, inline-4 engine. This motor is capable of producing 83 PS and 113 Nm. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As for the Wagon R, this particular model is the smaller, 1.0-litre version. This naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder mill can generate 67 PS and 90 Nm, and is paired to a 5-speed gearbox as well. On paper, it seems like the Baleno has a clear advantage and will smoke the WagonR in an instant. There’s a surprise hidden here!

Maruti Baleno Vs WagonR drag race

In the first drag race, both the Wagon R and the Baleno are neck to neck, finishing in a tie! In the second run, the Wagon R takes the lead early during the race and then maintains it till the end, scoring a win. During the third attempt, however, we see that the Baleno gains a comfortable lead over the Wagon R, thus gaining one victory. Perhaps the drivers’ skills played a major part in the Wagon R’s victory runs, but still, we’re impressed with the tallboy hatchback’s performance. Please note that the drag race was performed on a closed road with no traffic in sight. Such stunts on public roads are dangerous and can lead to severe accidents.
