Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce a rugged-looking premium version of the Ertiga that will be dubbed the Ertiga Cross. Here’s a render of the new model that drops a serious hint at how the model could look like.

Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the premium MPV segment, the Ertiga was introduced back in November 2018. Since launch, the MPV has garnered quite a huge fanbase in the market as it’s now the hottest-selling model in its segment. In a bid to keep up this momentum, Maruti Suzuki will introduce more butch-looking and rugged crossover variant of Ertiga- that will be the Ertiga Cross. According to a set of spy images surfaced online in recent days, IAB’s illustrator Shoeb Kalania has rendered the Ertiga Cross for its futuristic look.

Maruti Suzuki will launch the crossover version of the Ertiga MPV in India that will be called the Ertiga Cross.

The upcoming Ertiga Cross will have noticeable cosmetic changes over the regular model. Pinned on evolutionary design language, the new Ertiga Cross will sport an upright nose, bigger front grille with chrome bar garnishes, refreshed headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The front bumpers will be heavily redesigned for a completely new look. That said, the new crossover will get more chrome treatment running horizontally across the lower grille along with bigger air dams.

The muscular styling design of the Ertiga Cross will be highlighted on the side profile thanks to the presence of stylish machine-cut alloy wheels, roof rails, sharper shoulder line, higher ground clearance together with the generous utilization of black plastic body cladding, all the ways to make it crossover-like. The rear end of the car will feature a pair of newly-designed taillights while the interior is expected to be all black, just like that of the Ertiga Black Edition.

The upcoming Ertiga Cross is expected to arrive by the end of 2019.

The standard Maruti Ertiga is currently available with two engine options- a BSIV-ready K15 Smart Hybrid petrol motor making a max power of 104 PS at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4,440 rpm, and a 1.5-litre DDiS 225 diesel engine tuned for 94 PS and 225 Nm of torque. Note that, the carmaker has announced its plan to phase out the diesel burner by April 2020 so this mill won’t be making its way to the Ertiga Cross. Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed automatic torque converter (for the petrol engine) and a 6-speed manual unit (for the diesel variant). Expect the imminent Ertiga Cross to borrow more or fewer engines and gearboxes from the regular version for its heart.

The all-new Maruti Ertiga Cross is likely to make a debut in India by the year end of 2019 and it will be the company’s last big launch of the year. Prices of the new Ertiga Cross is anticipated to be costlier and premium at around Rs 10.05 lakh mark (estimated, ex-showroom). Once launched, the Ertiga Cross will be one of its kind and can be sold via the NEXA outlets, unlike the regular Maruti Ertiga MPV which is currently retailed through Arena dealerships.
