Maruti's version of a cross-hatch is likely to be based on the Swift. Before you start imagining what it will look like, take a look at these renderings of Maruti Swift Cross.

Maruti Swift is in its 3rd-generation currently. In the international markets, a performance-oriented ‘Sport’ trim is also on sale, which is not available in India. However, there are rumours that Maruti might introduce a cross-hatch iteration of the Swift soon. If we go by the analogy of how Suzuki has named the cross-hatch version of Baleno in international markets, it will be named as Swift Cross. Quite simple a name we would say. The Baleno Cross, however, does not possess a lot of difference from its regular counterpart. It just boasts of a few changes. But, what will the Swift Cross look like? To answer this question, we came across two renderings of the Swift Cross, which are made by X-Tomi and Shoeb R. Kalania. The latter is our in-house rendering artist.

Starting with Shoeb R. Kalania’s illustration first, his representation of Swift Cross gets rugged black-cladding with silver scuff plates on all sides. Furthermore, it gets a set of chunky roof rails at the top. He has even jacked up the Swift a bit to aid it with more ground clearance. This Swift Cross also gets a dual-tone paint job with a black top half.

Moving over to the X-Tim’s idea of Swift Cross, it is rather subtle, design-wise. The black cladding is slimmer, and scuff plates are only seen on the front and the rear facet. The roof rails are sleeker units too. All in all, X-Tim’s rendering looks much better than that of Shoeb R. Kalania’s.

In India, Swift is all set to receive a mid-cycle update in the form of a facelift. It will come with some minute cosmetic changes like a revised design for the alloy wheels and radiator grille. A few tweaks can also be expected on the interior. However, the major change will be under the hood. The Swift facelift will get the new K12N petrol motor. This 1.2L 4-cylinder N/A engine will put out an increased power output of 90 PS, while the torque output will remain unchanged at 113 Nm. This bump in power comes via some changes – cooled EGR, piston cooling, higher compression ratio, and dual injectors at every cylinder.
