Who wins a drag race between a Maruti Vitara Brezza competes against Ford EcoSport? Check it out here
Here, we are talking about two of the most popular compact SUVs currently on sale in India, the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford Ecosport. To recap, it was the Ford Ecosport who was the first of its kind to pave the way for other subcompact SUVs of India. However, it was the Maruti Vitara Brezza that has been selling in decent numbers to become a long-time favourite ‘King’ of the country’s sub-four-metre SUV segment. So, what happens when one puts the Brezza vs Ecosport in a drag race? Who wins? Check it out here-
The above video shows a Maruti Vitara Brezza clashing in a set of drag races with a Ford EcoSport and we are all shocked by the result. The video is uploaded by Dream Cars Youtube channel, which has made the attempts to see how the SUVs perform based on the real-world conditions instead of how they fare against each other on the spec sheets. Note that both cars featured here are the diesel-powered models and are the pre-facelift models.
In the first part of the drag races, we see the Vitara Brezza coming off as a clear winner. The Maruti car gets off the line so quickly and easily that it creates a huge gap with its competitor. The Ecosport struggles to catch up with the Brezza, despite having more power and torque output than the Vitara Brezza on paper. In the second attempt with switched drivers, the Ecosport has quite a better start with the Vitara Brezza hot on its tracks. Sadly, the Ecosport fails to keep a distance. The Maruti SUV manages to catch up both the times and wins the races. It was a shocking result, wasn’t it? What’s the reason for a more powerful Ford Ecosport with 98.6 BHP of max power and 215 Nm of peak torque losing out to the Maruti Vitara Brezza which gets only 89 BHP/ 200 Nm of torque? We can point it out.
Yes, the Maruti Vitara Brezza has a great weight advantage over the Ecosport, which can be greatly attributed as the reason for the result of the drag race. Although the Ford Ecosport has a punchier engine with better driving dynamics, it is no better than the Vitara Brezza in the straight line. This Vitara Brezza diesel model weighs over 1,195 kg that is almost 125 kilos lighter than the 1,320 kg-weighed Ford Ecosport.
It is worth noting that the Vitara Brezza employs a VGT turbocharger (Variable Geometry turbocharger) while the Ecosport sticks with the fixed unit (FGT). Indeed, the VGT can spool up better than the FGT, thereby reducing the turbo lags and that’s the reason why the Vitara Brezza gets off the line faster than the Ecosport when the drivers push the accelerator pedal.
3. SOHC and DOHC engines
The Maruti Vitara Brezza comes with a dual-overhead-camp diesel engine that features camshafts operating the intake valves and exhaust valves along the lines. The Ford Ecosport, meanwhile, makes use of the old-school single-overhead-cam engine. As a result, it’s the Maruti Vitara Brezza’s driver who can access to the power band faster than the Ecosport’s.
It’s a pity that the Ford EcoSport loses out in spite of a more powerful motor. However, we are yet to see the Ford Ecosport BS6 vs Maruti Vitara Brezza BS6 fights against each other in a drag race. Currently, the Ford Ecosport 2020 is priced from Rs 8.04 – 11.58 Lakh while the Maruti Vitara Brezz 2020 is on sale at Rs 7.34 – 11.4 Lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
Still, there is one thing we need to point out here that the set of drag races were conducted on the public roads and that is totally illegal and irresponsible of the drivers to do so. These activities should be avoided at any cost, no matter which car you are driving.
