MG Gloster is the longest, widest, and the tallest car in its segment. It might sound surprising, but this behemoth of an SUV from the Chinese-owned British brand is as big as a Toyota Land Cruiser. Its humongous proportions lend it with immense road presence. Thus, we believe that MG Gloster can be a cool cop car. In case, you’ve started imaging it with beacons and police livery already, hold down your thoughts. Here’s a set of images from Beijing, China, where MG Gloster is used as a patrol vehicle by police forces. Since the MG Gloster is based on a Chinese SUV – Maxus D90, the police forces get it with the Maxus badge there.
In the images, the Maxus-badged MG Gloster can be seen donning a Beijing Police Department livery, which looks good on the white-coloured SUV. Moreover, a set of strobe lights is mounted on the roof along with a camera which can be rotated 360-degree. Also, an auxiliary antenna is mounted around the tailgate for the transmission of signals for the CB radio. If Indian police departments start using the Gloster as a patrolling vehicle, it would be a great move from their side as the SUV is a capable offroader and can take bad roads with ease.
The Gloster comes with an optional 4WD system that uses BorgWarner transfer case and gets an electronically-locking rear differential. It gets various driving modes as well, namely - Snow, Mud, Sand, Eco, Sport, Auto and Rock. Also, the Gloster gets a long list of features. The list includes a 12-speaker sound system that comes coupled to a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, massaging driver seats, 3-zone climate control and more.
Powering the MG Gloster is a 2.0L 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine. This setup is capable of pushing out a rated power output of 218 PS and max torque of 480 Nm and can only be had with an 8-speed torque converter automatic. Talking of its prices, the base-spec Super trim costs Rs. 29.98 lakhs, whereas the top-spec Savvy variant is priced at Rs. 35.58 lakh.
