MG Gloster finally goes on sale in the country at a starting price of Rs. 28.98 Lakh. The Gloster will compete against the likes of likes Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, which start at Rs. 28.66 lakh and Rs. 29.55 lakh, respectively. The Gloster comes up as the largest SUV in its segment with a length of 4,985 mm, a width of 1,926 mm, and height of 1,867 mm. It boasts of a massive road presence and weighs nearly 2.5 Tonnes. Based on the Chinese-SUV Maxus D90, it looks like a badge-engineered version of SAIC’s global SUV. The Gloster is offered in a total of four trim options, namely Super, Smart, Sharp, and Savvy.

Well, the base-sped Super trim is decently loaded, but it is the Savvy that gets a host of features. The list includes three-zone climate control, dual-pane panoramic sunroof, 8-way power-adjustable driver seat with massaging and memory function, 6-way power-adjustable co-driver seat, captain chairs in the second row, ventilated front seats with heating function, and a 360-degree camera. Also, there is a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging pad, and 12-speaker Infinity sound system.

As for the safety, the Gloster gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, roll-over mitigation, fatigue alert, blind-spot detection, adaptive cruise control with level-1 autonomous assistance, front collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive brake assist, auto-park assist, electronic parking brake, hill start assist and more.

Powering the Gloster is a 2.0L 4-cylinder twin-turbo oil burner that puts out a rated power output of 218 PS and max torque of 480 Nm. It comes mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, which is sourced from ZF. The Gloster gets a BorgWarner 4X4 transfer case along with a low-range gearbox and electronically locking rear diff. Furthermore, it gets seven driving modes for on-road and off-road driving, namely Snow, Sand, Eco, Auto, Mud, Rock, and Sport. Talking of the brakes, it gets ventilated discs at all four wheels, while the suspension duties are performed by dual-wishbones at the front and a solid axle at the rear.
