It is being speculated that the next generation Ford EcoSport will take inspiration from the recently unveiled Ford Bronco Sport (Jeep Compass-rival) for the US market
Recently, Ford has revived the Bronco nameplate. Along with reviving this old moniker, Ford also introduced a brand new model on the Bronco lineup. The new model, Bronco Sport, is a toned-down version of the standard Bronco. It is also the smallest member in the line-up. Also, it is being said that the new Ford EcoSport will take inspiration from the Ford Bronco.
The next-generation Ford EcoSport is likely to be inspired by the new Ford Bronco Sport
While the standard Ford Bronco is positioned as a premium off-road SUV which will take on the likes of Jeep Wrangler, the Bronco Sport will rival the Jeep Compass. It is unlikely that Ford will bring the Bronco to the Indian market.
Currently, in India, Ford is offering two choices of SUVs. One is the compact SUV Ford EcoSport and the other is the full-size Ford Endeavour. Meanwhile, the new-gen Ford EcoSport is expected to be larger and more rugged-looking than the outgoing version. According to some sources, the new-gen EcoSport can measure up to 4.27 meter in length. Additionally, the off-road capability of the new version is likely to be enhanced significantly.
Some reports even suggest that India-spec new-gen Ford EcoSport might share the platform with Mahindra XUV300 while others claim that the new EcoSport will retain the existing B-platform. Moreover, it is expected that Mahindra might take the B-platform from the American car brand to underpin its new mid-sized SUV, which is suspected to be the Mahindra XUV400. The component and technology sharing results from the new-found partnership between Ford and Mahindra.
The new-gen Ford EcoSport is likely to be powered by Mahindra-sourced 1.2-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. This engine can generate a top power of 130 Bhp and peak torque of 230 Nm. The engine will be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Along with this, a 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine with a top power of 155 Bhp is expected to be offered as well. The next-gen Ford EcoSport will come with an all-drive system.
