Below is a video which shows an all-new Mahindra Thar diesel automatic being tested for its fuel mileage by the owner. Read on for more details.

Being launched earlier this year, the all-new Mahindra Thar has received an overwhelming response from the auto customers, especially SUV enthusiasts in India. The home-grown automaker has already announced that the SUV’s production will be increased to satisfy the massive demands. In the meanwhile, off-road videos and ownership reviews on the new Thar have been released. Below is a video which shows the owner’s test on the real fuel mileage and performance of the all-new SUV. Firstly, let’s have a look at the video.

Uploaded by DVC’s Youtube channel, the video begins with the owner discussing the conditions of the car. The car is a soft-top convertible version and would be used as the owner's primary vehicle to commute to the office. The fuel tank has been filled by the owner right after the car is delivered to his garage.

After refuelling the car, the driver drove it on various conditions such as highways, city and even off-roading. On the whole journey, he was never stuck at any point. It is common knowledge that off-roading burns more fuel compared to driving in normal conditions. In the video, we can see that the refuel notification had popped up on the MID with the distance to empty range being 80+ kilometres.

The driver then drove the car to the nearest fuel station to refill the tank of the car. He filled it to the point where the fuel was cut from the nozzle. This was also the thing that he had done to the full tank previously. The car had travelled for around 524 kilometres and took 46.3 litres of diesel, which translates into a fuel mileage of 11.30 kmpl. This is not bad at all, given that the car is a diesel automatic diesel variant and was driven on various road conditions. Nothing has been done to improve the fuel mileage of the 2.2-litre turbo oil burner. Were it a manual version or had not been driven off-roading, it might have returned a better fuel mileage.

The Mahindra Thar diesel automatic version is able to return a quite good fuel mileage in the test.

The new Mahindra Thar is underpinned by an all-new platform, which increases its length and width. The new SUV is also better-equipped with more features such as company-fitted hardtop, touchscreen infotainment system, roof-mounted speakers, autocruise, front-facing seats, etc.

The new Mahindra Thar receives its power from two engine options. While the petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbo mStallion motor which can produce 150 BHP against 320 Nm, the diesel motor is a 2.2-litre turbo motor which is good for 130 BHP against 320 Nm. The transmission duties on both of the two versions are undertaken by a standard 6-speed MT and an optional 6-speed AT. The car has proudly achieved a 4-star rating in the Global NCAP crash test.
