New Mahindra Thar Looks Rather Tiny Parked Alongside Hummer H2

New Mahindra Thar has been recently launched in the country, and it has been welcomed with a warm response by the Indian audience. A big credit for this great welcome goes to the way it looks, feature-packed cabin it comes with, and the road presence it boats of. However, we would like to tell you that the Indian market has always been kept away from big American SUVs and trucks. Small cars have always been the focus of the Indian market. Hence, we often treat mid-size SUVs and off-roaders as deities of size and road presence. In case you think that the new-gen Thar is not small, take a look at the image below, which we stumbled upon via a social media platform.

In the above image, the all-new Mahindra Thar is standing right next to the American giant – Hummer H2, and it looks quite tiny in comparison to the big-brawny SUV. However, it isn’t a perfect comparison, since both of these cars are from different segments and were developed for different markets. Talking of the dimensions, the new-gen Thar is 4 meters long, 1.8 meters wide, and 1.9 meters tall. The Hummer H2, on the other hand, boasts of some generous dimensions. It is nearly 5 meters in length, over 2 meters in width, and is almost 2 meters tall. Furthermore, the Hummer H2 has a ground clearance of 251 mm, whereas the Thar sits 226 mm above the ground.

The new-gen Thar is available with two engine options – 150 Hp 2.0L turbo-petrol and 130 Hp 2.2L diesel. These engines can be had coupled to either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT. Moreover, it comes with a 4x4 drivetrain with a low-ratio gearbox and mechanically-locking rear differential as standard. The Hummer H2 is not on sale anymore. However, when it was on sale, it came with a 6.2L Vortec V8 motor that pushed out 398 PS of peak power. Coupled to a 6-speed torque converter automatic, it could pull the 3 Tonne SUV to 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just 9.8 seconds. Earlier models were offered with a smaller 6.0L V8, which came mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
