New Mahindra Thar was launched on October 2nd. Ahead of the commencement of the deliveries, Mahindra has dropped an official video displaying the new Thar's impressive performance off the road

Earlier this month, Mahindra finally declared the prices of the new-gen Mahindra Thar. Deliveries of the second-generation Thar will start from next month and it's being said that the new model already commands a waiting period of around two months. At the beginning of the video, one can have a glimpse of the exterior and the interior of the new Mahindra Thar. Afterwards, the driver pushes the throttle and shows what the new Thar is capable of off the road.  The Thar starts off with one wheel on the wet tarmac while the other sits on a dry surface. As the engine starts, thanks to the Brake Lock Differentials, the SUV can maintain a good grip on the road, even when dealing with variations in the surface. After that, the new Mahindra Thar approaches a slalom test, during which the SUV shows its incredible handling capabilities. While the Rollover Mitigation system manages to keep the SUV from rolling over, the rear Panhard rod keeps the car from experiencing lateral movement. Following the slalom test, the Mahindra Thar is run through a waterlogged track. During this test, the ABS and ESP system of the new Thar works effectively to prevent it from swerving around.

After showing the excellent performance on the regular road track, we see how the SUV performs in off-road conditions. According to the revealed specifications, the Mahindra Thar sports a break-over angle of 27 degrees. The approach angle and the departure angle stands at 41.8 degrees and 36.8 degrees, respectively. Owing to these excellent specs, the Mahindra Thar can easily descend on a steep embankment.

When finishing the hill-down descend, the Thar runs into a small stream. With the water-wading capability of 650mm, Mahindra Thar easily handles this challenge. The decent ground clearance of 226 mm keeps the underbody of the Thar way from getting in touch with the obstacles and bumps across the road. Afterwards, the Mahindra Thar proceeds to perform some stunt on the off-road condition. The video finishes with the Mahindra successfully climbing up the embankment. With the help of the grade ability of 31 degrees along with hill hold and hill descent controls, the new Thar effortlessly takes on this challenge. The new Mahindra Thar is being offered with two choices of engines, a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. These engines are good for 130 Bhp/300 Nm and 150 Bhp/320 Nm, respectively. Both engines will be offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.
