New Mahindra Thar Owner Review Highlights What's HOT And What's NOT - VIDEO

All-new Mahindra Thar is attracting a lot of limelight for the way it looks. It has been recently launched at a starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakh. The new-gen Thar is also praised by the critics and the reviews from the off-road community are confidence-inspiring as well. But, a detailed ownership review was missing till now, but not anymore. Here’s a YouTube video from the channel of Revv Reviews, where a Mahindra Thar owner can be seen talking about the positives and negative attributes of his prized possession.  The Thar that host owns is the top-spec LX trim (hardtop) and gets an oil burner under the hood which is mated to a 6-speed automatic here.

The host begins by sharing his thoughts about the Thar’s exterior design first. According to him, the Thar looks purposeful and macho. He adds that it surely is an upgrade in comparison to the last-gen model. From the inside, the new-gen Thar feels premium, and it now comes loaded with a long list of equipment. However, the host feels that the TUV300-inspired steering wheel doesn’t look appealing to him. Moreover, he adds that the quality control levels aren’t all that great either. His Thar came with distorted paint and scuff marks on the centre console.

Furthermore, the panel gaps on the hardtop are not well-finished. There are white circles on the hardtop, which are marked by Mahindra’s QC team for the poor finishing and improper sealing of the panels. Yet, the car was delivered to the owner. Overall, the host feels that new-gen Thar is a great car, but the brand should take strong steps to improve the fit and finish levels.

Talking of the powertrain, the host claims that the diesel engine is pretty refined. Also, in comparison to the last-gen model’s power plant, it is quite silent as well. It is a 4-cylinder turbocharged unit and is capable of putting out a peak power output of 130 HP and max torque of 320 Nm. The turbo-petrol motor, on the other hand, is capable of developing peak power and torque outputs of 150 HP and 320 Nm, respectively. The transmission choices on the new-gen Thar include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Interestingly, the BorgWarner 4x4 transfer case, low-ratio gearbox, and locking rear differential remain standard across the range.
