The New Mahindra Thar has been pretty quick to establish itself well in the market. In fact, its entry-level AX and AX(O) trims are already sold out for the year
New-gen Mahindra Thar is a huge success. With the overwhelming demand for the updated version of the Thar, the waiting period has been extended up to 7 months in some areas. The homegrown UV-specialist even managed to delivery around 1,200 units in the first month of sale. However, there are a lot of customers that are still waiting to get their hands on the new Thar. The Prince of Udaipur, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, is among the few lucky ones that have added the new SUV to their garages. Interestingly, the Thar owned by Mr Mewar is also the first accessorized Mahindra Thar to be delivered.
The prince of Udaipur has been a big fan of the off-roader SUV. Before the 2020 Mahindra Thar, he owned a previous-gen model as well. Last year, he was among 700 people to get the Mahindra Thar Limited Edition. Besides the famous Thar nameplate, he has recently acquired the flagship model of Mahindra, Mahindra Alturas G4 as well.
The first person in India to own the first Mahindra Thar, Mr Akash Minda, has got the vehicle for a winning bid of Rs 1.1 crore at a charity auction organized by Mahindra. Mahindra has also announced the accessories and merchandise for the buyers of the Mahindra Thar. Apparently, it will take longer for the car manufacturer to deliver the accessorized vehicles than the regular model. For the uninitiated, the new Mahindra Thar is built on a new platform, and it comes in three roof configurations, hardtop, soft-stop and convertible soft top. In the previous-gen-model, the off-roader SUV came with the factory-fitted soft-top version only. Apart from this, the new Mahindra Thar also receives a variety of new features and updates, which helps to boost the appeal of the lifestyle SUV significantly.
The new Mahindra Thar is equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensor, front seatbelt reminder as standard. Other features include ESP, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill hold assist, hill descent control, cruise control, traction control, reverse parking sensor, and many more.
As for the powertrain, the Mahindra Thar is now offered with two engine options, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder mStallion turbo petrol engine and a 2.2-litre four-cylinder mHawk turbo diesel engine. These engines are good for 150 Bhp/320 Nm (AT) or 300 Nm (MT) and 130 Bhp/300 Nm, respectively. A 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox are available for both engines. To enhance the off-road abilities of off-road SUV, the Mahindra Thar has provided a four-wheel-drive transfer case with low and high ratios and shift-on-the-fly function.
