New Tata Safari Prices Start From Rs 14.69 Lakh - Comparison With Mahindra XUV500 And MG Hector Plus

The Safari nameplate has entered the Indian auto market again, this time as an all-new model. Today we have this comparison of its prices against the Mahindra XUV500 and the MG Hector Plus.

After close to a month since the all-new Tata Safari was revealed, it has announced the prices for the 7-seater SUV. Based on the Tata Harrier, the new Safari brings back the iconic nameplate after the older model was discontinued as BS-VI emissions kicked in. The new Safari has been previously showcased as the Gravitas, and Tata officials say it was always supposed to be the Safari. It looks completely different from its predecessors. The first-generation of the Safari was launched way back in 1998 and was marketed as the first lifestyle-oriented vehicle in the Indian market.

The new Tata Safari is available in a total of 11 variants, spread across 6 trim levels - XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. Prices for the new Safari start from Rs 14.69 lakh for the base model and goes up to Rs 21.45 lakh for the flagship Adventure Persona Edition. Do note that all prices are ex-showroom and introductory, which means prices will increase in the future. The new Safari will compete with the likes of the recently updated MG Hector Plus and the Mahindra XUV500 in this price range. Depending on your budget, all three SUVs will have at least one model which will fit your needs. The MG Hector Plus has the cheapest flagship variant while the new Tata Safari will set you back the most. The Hector Plus also has the most expensive entry-level variant, while the Mahindra XUV500 is the cheapest.

New Tata Safari Prices Start From Rs 14.69 Lakh, Compared With Mahindra XUV500 And MG Hector Plus Prices

Both the MG Hector Plus and the Tata Safari are powered by the FCA-sourced 2-litre turbo-diesel unit which makes 170 PS/350 Nm of peak figures while the Hector Plus also comes with a 1.5-litre petrol unit which makes 143 PS/250 Nm of max figures. The XUV500 is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel motor which churns out peak figures of 153 PS/350 Nm. The Safari can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, the XUV500 also gets the same choices. The MG Hector Plus comes with a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed auto or a CVT gearbox, though the diesel variants only come with the 6-speed manual.
