New Toyota Fortuner Goes Proper Off-Roading in Australia - VIDEO

Toyota Fortuner has been the most popular SUV in its segment for a while now. First launching in 2009, the people loved the size and features of the vehicle which coupled with Toyota’s trademark reliability, soon became the go-to choice in the segment. The second-generation Fortuner was launched in India back in 2016 with a thorough overhaul of the design and updated interior though the dimensions remained roughly the same. Even though the Rs 30 lakh plus SUV segment has seen more entrants like the Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the recently launched MG Gloster, the Fortuner remains the preferred choice. Today we have got a video of the Toyota Fortuner which shows how it fares in the Australian terrain.

The video has been uploaded by Ronny Dahl over on YouTube, and he has got a new Toyota Fortuner to put it through the paces. The first test is on soft sand terrain, on which after lowering the tyre pressures, the Fortuner quite easily traverses through. Its four-wheel-drive system with 4-low feature working well in the soft and slippery surface. Next is the off-road test with undulations, cambers, and huge rocks to go through. The Fortuner comes with a rear-locking differential, which really helps in very undulating conditions as you’ll see in the video. A locking diff reduces the amount of slip you’ll get under power in these conditions, so you’re not wasting the vehicle’s power. The Toyota Fortuner came out of the test with great results and it managed two very different terrains quite effortlessly. Ronny really liked the rear locking differential, the paddle shifters for the automatic gearbox, and the power to weight ratio of the Toyota Fortuner. It is quite a bit lighter compared to the Land Cruiser Prado, which helps it get through soft terrains like sand with a bit more ease. 

Prices for the Toyota Fortuner range from Rs 28.66 lakh – 34.43 lakh, ex-showroom. You can choose your Fortuner with a diesel or petrol engine. The oil-burner is a 2.8-litre turbocharged unit which churns out max power and torque figures of 175 PS/450 Nm. The petrol is a 2.7-litre N/A 4-pot engine which makes 165 PS/245 Nm of peak power and torque. Transmission options include a 5 or 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The petrol versions are available in rear-wheel-drive variants only.
