Ford has started testing of the components of upcoming new-gen EcoSport in the bodyshell of Aspire.

Ford EcoSport was first introduced in our market back in 2012. The ongoing model of the car received a major makeover in 2017. Afterwards, the American automaker introduced a few subtle changes and new limited/special editions of the car to achieve good sales numbers. The SUV is quite aged now and is expected to be replaced by a new-gen model very soon. The sub-4-meter SUV segment is the most competitive segment in India and to cope up with the rising competition, the automaker has already started working on the new-gen model.

The upcoming model of the SUV has already entered its testing phase. According to a recent report, Ford has started component testing of the new-gen Ford EcoSport in a camouflaged Ford Ka sedan (sold as Aspire in India). The new prototype model of the car was spied testing in Tatui (SP), where Ford proving ground is located. The recently spied test vehicle gets large SUV like wheels and tyres and also raised-up suspension. This is a common practice that many automakers around the world do to test the components in different body shells. Citroen was using the body shell of Peugeot 208 to test the CMP platform and its components. Reports suggest that the all-new Ford EcoSport will be based on the updated version of the existing B platform.

In our market, Ford will launch the new-gen EcoSport in collaboration with Mahindra & Mahindra. The automaker is also working on an all-new sub-4-meter SUV, which will sit below Ford EcoSport in the carmaker’s stable. The ongoing model of the car is powered by 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine. It is offered at a starting price of Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the entry-level petrol trim and goes all the way up to Rs 11.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec diesel variant.
