The compact SUV market is going to be even more crowded with the Nissan Magnite launching very soon. We compare it with the other new entrant, the Kia Sonet.

The Nissan Magnite is going to be officially launched in the first week of December. The compact SUV/crossover market also saw the recent launch of the Kia Sonet, which has been a runaway hit in the segment with already 10,000 units sold since its launch in September 2020. Both of them are brand-new models and will compete against each other in this rapidly growing segment, so today let's compare the specs, features, and engines of the Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet.

Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet - Features

The Nissan Magnite comes in 4 trims and 10 variants, and gets features like a multi-functional steering wheel, the centre-console gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with in-built Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7-inch TFT instrument console, and 360-degree monitor display on the screen. Nissan is also offering an optional Tech Pack on the top models with even more creature comforts like a wireless charger, high-end speakers from JBL, an air purifier, ambient mood lighting, and puddle lamps.

The Kia Sonet comes in a total of 6 trims,  with The flagship  GTX+ trim level getting advanced provisions such as a 10.25-inch infotainment system, 4.2-inch color instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, UVO connectivity suite, BOSE sound system,sound-mood lighting system, air purification system with Virus Protect feature, wireless charging pad, a tyre pressure management system, and over-the-air (OTA) map updates as well as the multi-drive and traction modes for the automatic models.

Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet - Dimensions

The new Nissan Magnite measures 3,994mm in length, 1,758mm in width, and 1,572mm in height, while the wheelbase comes in at 2,500mm. The ground clearance of the model stands at 205mm, while the boot space and fuel tank capacity are rated at 336 litres and 40 litres, respectively.

The Kia Sonet shares its platform with the Hyundai Venue, which gives it the same length of 3995mm, but the Sonet is taller and wider with 1790mm width and 1647 height with the wheelbase at 2500mm. The fuel tank and boot space are bigger than the Magnite at 45 litres and 392 litres respectively.

Nissan Magnite vs Kia Sonet - Engines

The new Nissan Magnite will be launched with a 1.0 litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol which makes 81PS/96Nm of peak power and torque figures and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The other choice is a 1.0 litre 3-pot turbo-petrol makes figures of 99 PS/160 Nm with the 5-speed manual and 99PS/152Nm when paired to the CVT auto.

The Kia Sonet comes with three engine options, The 1.2-litre petrol makes 83 PS/115 Nm of peak figures and is paired with a 5-speed manual while the 1.0 turbo-petrol makes peak figures of 120 PS/172 Nm and is mated to a 6-speed iMT or 7-speed DCT. The 1.5-litre oil-burner comes in either 100 PS/240 Nm or 115 PS/250 Nm states of tune and you get two gearbox choices, a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed auto.
