Nissan Magnite costs drastically lower than its rivals. We pit the Magnite XV and comparatively priced Kia Sonet HTE against each other to help you choose the better option

Nissan has shaken up the compact SUV segment with the launch of the new Magnite. With prices starting from as low as Rs 4.99 lakh, it drastically undercuts all its rivals' comparable variants by a lakh or so. To find a fair price and spec comparison for the Magnite, you will have to look at the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 or Maruti Swift. This means the Magnite may end up poaching sales from a different segment altogether as well. But how does it fare against its segment rivals? We at IndianAuto decided to pit the Nissan Magnite against the current crown holder of the segment, the Kia Sonet

As you will see in the video, we have got the Nissan Magnite in XV trim while the Kia Sonet is here in the HTE variant. Even though both the models here are comparable in price, the XV is one whole trim level higher than the HTE. Both the Magnite and Sonet have similar dimensions but the former sacrifices boot space for increased cabin space. The Nissan also looks the more modern of the two with its angular design and myriad creases. The Sonet before the Magnite launched was the best looking compact SUV but looks a bit dated now, even though it has some nice touches like the single-piece tail lamps and chunky bumpers.

On the exterior, the Magnite XV gets more premium features like LED fog lamps and DRLs, electrically foldable and adjustable ORVMs, 16-inch alloys, and keyless entry and go. The Sonet HTE is a variant lower and it shows as it doesn’t get either LED lights or alloy wheels. It also gets electrically adjustable only ORVMS.

Over to the interior, the theme continues as the Magnite XV gets climate control, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with integrated wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, rear parking camera, and power windows all around. Compared to this, The Sonet HTE gets only a semi-digital instrument console, manual AC, power windows for the front occupants, and a simple non-touch infotainment system. Nissan also offers an optional Tech Pack for Rs 20,000 extra in which you get additional features like a JBL audio system, ambient lighting, puddle lamps, an air purifier, and wireless charging.

The Kia Sonet HTE is powered by a bigger 1.2-litre 4-pot petrol which churns out 83 PS/115 Nm of max power and torque and is mated to a 5-speed Manual as well. Nissan has priced the Magnite XV at Rs 6.68 lakh and the Kia Sonet HTE comes in at Rs 6.71 Lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, respectively.
