Old Mahindra Scorpio Modified To Tame Toyota Fortuner In The Wild

Mahindra’s answer to Tata Safari came in the form of Scorpio in June 2002. It was the first Mahindra car to be developed from a plain sheet of paper. It was also the first car from Mahindra to go on sale globally as Mahindra Goa in Italy and Russia. The Scorpio wooed the crowd when it was shown to the masses for the first time. The SUV impresses with a fairly spacious and comfortable cabin, and it has quite the road presence. Even till date, the Scorpio looks the most-rugged SUV out of all the mid-size body-on-frame SUVs sold in India. However, here’s one, which has been kitted up to look even more daunting. The car belongs to Snehal from Kerala. The exterior of the car has been finished in a dual-tone paint job. It wears an all-black cladding, while the rest of the car has been painted in a shade of matt black. The headlamps cluster comes from the facelifted model and it now gets the smoked effect. The fog lamps are now fitted with LED elements. A set of small auxiliary lamps is also mounted on the bonnet to aid the visibility when it’s dark. Also, the pillars feature black sash taping to give it a full glass-like look as on the outgoing model of the Scorpio.

To keep the rugged appeal of the car intact, it now sits on a set of steelies. These negative offset rims are wrapped in MT-spec Maxxis Bighorn tyres. To help it wade through deep waters, a snorkel is also mounted on this Scorpio. It is the 4WD variant of the car and therefore these modifications will help it reach the places far away from civilization. Powering this behemoth is a 2.6L CRDi engine, which is good to push out 116 horses and 277 Nm of twisting force. Transmission duties are taken care of by a 5-speed MT.

As of now, Mahindra has been selling the same old Scorpio with updated exteriors and interiors. However, the carmaker is working on an all-new generation of the SUV. It will be built on a new platform. It is expected to be offered with 2 engine options – 2.2L diesel and 2.0L petrol. While the 2.2L diesel is expected to be the outgoing motor, the new petrol engine will come from the mStallion series of engines. It will churn out a peak power output of 190 HP and a max. torque of 380 Nm. Expect the new-gen Scorpio to hit the showroom floors by the end of this year.
