A last-gen Maruti Ertiga slipped off the road and landed down in the valley in Uttarakhand while keeping all of its occupants safe.

Driving on serpentine roads in hilly terrains requires constant attention. Trusting on your peripheral vision in place of your central vision is not advisable. As in the hills, the roads are generally narrow and offer almost negligible space to correct your inputs. Smallest of the mistakes can be life-threatening when driving on mountain roads. Here’s an example we came across recently. A car fell off the road in the valley in Bageshwar, Uttarakhand. It was a 2015 Maruti Ertiga, which was travelling from Delhi to transfer migrants from Uttarakhand back to their homes.

The reason for this accident is still not known, as confirmed by police.

The car had a total of 4 occupants including the driver. Thankfully, all of them walked out of the car without any major injury. It should be noted that the old Ertiga is a reasonably safe car with a 4-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP. After the incident was reported, the passengers were rescued by police and sent home in different vehicles. It can be seen in the photos that the car has no major damage to its roof or pillars. This signifies that the car’s body shell absorbed the impact gracefully, which helped the occupants not sustain critical injuries.

The Maruti Ertiga is in now sold in its second-gen avatar, and also misses out on a diesel engine. It gets its power from a 1.5L 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that belts out a peak power output of 103 BHP and a peak torque of 138 Nm. The K15 Smart Hybrid motor is available with 2 gearbox options – 5-speed MT and 4-speed AT. Maruti also offers an option of CNG for those looking for cheaper running costs.
