Kia Sonet is gaining a lot of limelight. The waiting period for the Sonet is in between 4-9 weeks, depending upon the configuration you choose. The response it is getting from the customers is warm, and social media platforms are full of pictures and videos of the Sonet. Somehow we came across one of the most unique of them all, where a prospective Kia Sonet customer – Rochak Sharma, jotted down his experience with the car. According to him, he liked the Sonet. Also, he ended up booking the HTX Plus trim with the 1.0L turbo-petrol motor and 6-speed iMT in the Intense Red paint scheme.

Mr Sharma test drove the Sonet with the same engine-gearbox configuration that he has booked. He claims that the engine is rev-happy and the gearbox offers easy shifts without the use of a clutch. He says, “You can stop the car in any gear without stalling or a hiccup. To start moving from standstill you will be prompted to shift down to 1st or 2nd gear. On 2nd gear also it creeps after releasing the brake.”

Talking of the steering, he found it as direct and heavy as his old VW Polo. Also, the Bose sound system’s audio quality is what he really liked and compared it with that of full-scale home theatre system. He claims that the overall visibility of the road from the driver’s seat is great and people with short height will not face any issues as such. However, the only gripe that he mentions of is that Sonet misses out on reach adjust for the steering wheel.

Kia is betting big on the Sonet. Talking of the prices, Sonet starts at Rs. 6.71 lakh for the base-spec HTE trim and goes up to Rs. 11.99 lakh for the range-topping GTX Plus trim. The variant that Mr Sharma has choose to go with is priced at Rs. 11.65 lakh. Talking of the engine options, there are of a total of 3 on offer – 1.2L petrol, 1.5L diesel, and 1.0L turbo-petrol. The gearbox options include a 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, 6-speed iMT, 5-speed MT, and 7-speed DCT.
