Check out the humble cars owned by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli, two of the best cricket superstars in India.

Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni is well-known for his love of cars and motorcycles. He has a garage full of exotics like Hummer H2 and Confederate Hellcat X32. There are also a few ‘regular’ cars in his collection. The current captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli also has a garage full of luxury, sports-, and supercars, like Audi R8 and Land Rover Range Rover Vogue, but he too owns a few ‘normal’ cars.

Mitsubishi Pajero

We begin our list with an off-road icon, the Mitsubishi Pajero. MS Dhoni is a collector of cars, and the Pajero is surely a car worth collecting. Its square-jaw looks and boxy styling give it a proper old-school vibe. It had a 2.8-litre diesel engine, capable of generating 108 PS and 292 Nm. It came paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. It also had a proper low-ratio gearbox, which coupled with the 205 inches of ground clearance, gave the car some serious off-road capability.

Mahindra Scorpio

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is also a proud owner of a Mahindra Scorpio. This particular model has been extensively modified, with an open roof and a custom bonnet with cooling vents. The car gets a custom dual-tone paint scheme. There are bull bars added to the front and side of the SUV, and the is ‘MS’ branding all over the car. There are no auxiliary lights though, which could have helped enhance the off-road character, at least in terms of looks. Dhoni’s Scorpio is an older model, powered by a 2.6-litre, inline-4, turbocharged diesel engine. It generates a maximum power of 116 PS and a peak torque of 277 Nm. It has a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 4x4 drive system as well.

Maruti SX4

Maruti SX4, although a sedan, has SUV-like characteristics. It had an extremely high ground clearance, and you could also choose to get company-fitted body kit on it. The car was offered with two engine options- a 1.6-petrol and a 1.3-litre diesel unit. The former was capable of producing 103 PS and 145 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively, while the diesel motor was the same Fiat-sourced multijet that was used in the pre-facelift Brezza, capable of producing 90 PS and 200 Nm. International models also had an all-wheel-drive system, but that never made its way to India.

Virat Kohli

Renault Duster

In 2012, Virat Kohli was awarded ‘Man of the Series’ title in a one-day series held in Sri Lanka. Other than the title, Kohli was also awarded a Renault Duster. It was never specified whether the car was a petrol or a diesel model. In petrol guise, the car is capable of pushing out 105 PS and 145 Nm from its 1.5-litre engine. As for the diesel variant, it also had a 1.5-litre engine that could generate a total of 85 PS and 200 Nm. Renault Duster is a great off-road capable SUV, despite being underpinned by a monocoque chassis (instead of a traditional body-on-frame construction) and a lack of 4x4 drivetrain.

Virat Kohli also has a Toyota Fortuner is his garage, which was gifted to him by Toyota Kirloskar. Kohli’s Fortuner is the previous generation model, which had two engine options. The first one was a 3.0-litre diesel engine, capable of generating 170 PS of maximum power and 360 Nm of peak torque. It was offered in rear-wheel-drive as well as all-wheel-drive format. The second one was an entry-level 2.5-litre diesel engine, which generates 142 PS and 343 Nm. You got a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, and a 5-speed automatic was optional on some trims.
