RDJ’s modified Ford Mustang features a brand new supercharged engine, and the prettiest interior you’ve ever seen.
Robert Downey Jr is one of the most popular Hollywood stars in the world. His rise to fame happened with his role as the titular character of Marvel’s ‘Ironman’ movies, followed by numerous other movies as well. RDJ is also known for his impressive taste in wheels. In 2019, he gifted his ‘Avengers’ co-star Chris Evan a modified 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Impressive, right? Well, wait till you hear which classic car he owns himself!
In 2017, Robert Downey Jr commissioned SpeedKore Performance Group, a custom garage based in Wisconsin, US, to build him a custom Mustang. The car chosen for the job was a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, and a new engine was sourced from Ford Performance. The new powerplant is a 5.0-litre V8 with a stage-2 supercharger, capable of generating a maximum of 667 horsepower! It is mated to a ‘Bowler T56’ 6-speed manual transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels via a custom rear differential.
The exterior of the car uses a lot of parts made out of carbon fibre, but those have been painted to preserve the classy look of the Mustang. The bonnet, bumpers, fenders, lip spoiler, and the quarter extensions are all made of carbon fibre. Apart from that, the wheels look absolutely beautiful. These 8-spoke HRE alloys are shod with low-profile Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres. The interior of the car is as beautiful as the exterior, if not more. The cabin features a dual-tone theme- brown leather all around with a splattering of (what seem to be) chequered cloth inserts. There’s a pair of bucket seats made of the same cloth and leather.
According to a few media reports, Robert Downey Jr was himself pretty involved in the project, lending his insights into how we wanted the car to look and feel like. As such, this custom Ford Mustang Boss 302 could be dubbed as this Hollywood star’s perfect car. Other than this custom Mustang, Downey Jr also owns a plethora of other exotics. He has a Ferrari California T, Audi R8 V8, Bentley Continental GT, Fisker Karma, Nissan GT-R, and a beautiful 1967 Corvette Stingray convertible.
