He further tweeted about its plans to launch 6 cars in India, after tweeting that the Czech manufacturer would be launching Kamiq and Karoq SUVs in the country. He claimed, “Over the next 2 years, we will bring 6 new or upgraded models to India. We are heavily invested in India and committed to long term growth”. Also, Bernhard Maier, CEO of Skoda, further claimed that mid-size SUV will be on sale from next year in the country. So what are those 6 cars that are coming to India?

1. 2020 Skoda Octavia

Of all upcoming Skoda cars of India, there are some models that have already gone on sale in the international markets. The current-gen Skoda Octavia, which is one of the best sale drivers for Skoda Auto India, would re-enter the country in its new avatar. The upcoming Octavia is all set to be launched in our market via the CKD format by late 2020 instead of the Auto Expo 2020 as reported earlier.

The 2020 Skoda Octavia will have its world's premiere in Prague on this November 11.

Recently, the all-new fourth-gen Skoda Octavia has come under the spotlight. It is now longer and wider than the previous-gen model. Built on an upgraded and modified version of the MQB platform, the new Octavia will feature a host of cosmetic changes for a fresher and more upmarket visual appeal. The front end of the car will feature a sleeker and larger butterfly grille flanked by a set of single-piece LED headlamps. The front bumper comes with refreshed air dams and LED fog lamps. Dual-tone alloy wheels, prominent character lines, a pair of new split LED taillamps and a tweaked tailgate are some major changes on the side and rear profiles of the vehicle.

In the global market, the Skoda Octavia gets a mild hybrid and CNG version aside from the regular powertrain options. However, we expect the Indian-spec car to get a 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system only. It can produce 150 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque and comes paired with a 6-speed MT or a 7-speed DSG option. Expect the 2020 Skoda Octavia to be priced a little higher than the current-gen model which is priced from Rs 18 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

2. Skoda Octavia RS

The Skoda Octavia has a band of fan-followers in India after it was first launched in the country in September 2017. In fact, the Octavia RS found many more takers in India than what Skoda initially expected as 500 cars were sold out completely in 2018. The Skoda Octavia RS is set to make a return to the Indian market as a limited-run car at the upcoming Auto Expo. It is likely to enter India via the CBU route, limited to 200 units only.

The forthcoming Skoda Octavia RS will see its market launch at the Auto Expo 2020.

According to some reports, Skoda is bringing in the Euro-spec Octavia RS for India, which means it would be more powerful than the outgoing RS that were sold in our country some years back. The upcoming Skoda car will get the power from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that churns out 245 PS of max power and 370 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission option and helps the car sprint from 0 - 100 kmph in a mere 6.6 seconds. The estimated price of the Octavia RS is at around Rs 35 Lakhs.

3. Skoda Kamiq

As India is an ever-evolving market for mid-size SUVs and crossovers, Skoda will join the game with the new Kamiq. The Hyundai Creta-rivalling Kamiq SUV will more likely enter the market by the first half of 2020. While it is expected to have its public showcase at the 2020 Auto Expo since the car has been spotted on test in its production guise without any camouflage.

Skoda Kamiq is coming as a viable alternative to the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier in the SUV segment.

The forthcoming Skoda Kamiq will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform to benefit from a high-value local content with competitive pricing. The Karoq will also be the car to kick start the localisation of MQB-A0 platform. Apart from taking a direct competition over Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, Kamiq will also be underpinning a Volkswagen SUV that will adopt a similar styling as the Kodiaq. The Kamiq is quite a smart-looking SUV that gets an impressive front end with split-headlamps and Skoda's iconic butterfly grille. It will get sharp bold character line running through its body and a set of 17, 18, or 19-inch alloy wheels. Internationally, the Kamiq flaunts three petrol, two diesel along with a CNG powertrain option under the hood. The exact powertrain for the India-spec Kamiq is yet to be confirmed but it is more likely to come with a TSI petrol and a TDI diesel mills, all complying with the BSVI standards.

4. Skoda Karoq

The Karoq is another upcoming Skoda car for India that will be helping Skoda work on India 2.0 Project. Karoq is a size bigger than the lesser Kamiq and higher Kodiaq. For this very reason, the Karoq gets a very tight gap to fill, which would not be beneficial for the manufacturer, thus the plans for it to come here in India were a little shaky. However, sources are to be believed and the good news is that Karoq has been confirmed to come to India but the sad news is that it will opt for a CBU route. But coming to India as CBU, however, would not be all that expensive for this stylish SUV as Indian Government has made some amendments in homologation policies for the CBU routes.

2020 Skoda Karoq SUV is confirmed to enter India this year as a CBU unit.

Initially, the 2020 Skoda Karoq SUV is said to come with a BSVI-spec 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol that is tuned to develop 150 HP of power. Transmission duties will be carried over by a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. An oil burner is also taken into consideration at the later date.

5. Skoda Superb Facelift

Talking about the facelifted Skoda Superb, the new luxury sedan is set to come to us in mid-2020. The updated Superb will feature a refreshed styling with tweaked bumpers along with more LED treatments on the lighting system. Skoda Superb facelift will get several cosmetic revisions both on the outside and inside.

The engines of the car will be also boosted but it is yet to confirm whether Skoda carries on the same engines or goes with new options. While the international-spec Superb facelift gets a plug-in-hybrid drivetrain using a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and an electric motor to churn out a combined power of 215 BHP. The hybrid powertrain makes use of a lithium-ion battery mounted in the chassis floor front of rear axle. However, it remains to know if Skoda India could introduce this combination to the Indian market or not. Two other engines likely to be launched with the Skoda Superb facelift are the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel motors. All the engines are expected to be BSVI compliant as it's set to be launched after the BSVI norms kick in.

Introduced back in 2011, Skoda Rapid is nothing more than just a badge-engineered Volkswagen Vento. Skoda Rapid will also be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform that is a localised version of the low-cost MQB-A0 platform for India.

This is the first generation change for the Skoda Rapid in India. In its all-new avatar, the new Skoda Rapid will more likely to be a notchback rather than a three-box sedan as the earlier version. It might get an Octavia-inspired lifted-back tailgate so we can assume that the new-gen Rapid will look much like a mini-Octavia. The new Rapid will be also underpinned by the MQB-A0-IN platform which will spawn many upcoming Skoda cars in India. The next-gen Skoda Rapid will be propelled by a BSVI-ready 1.0-litre TSI engine that might churn out 115 PS of power. A manual and an automatic transmission might be packed with the new Rapid as well. The next-gen Rapid is reported to go on sale in the country in 2021.

7. Skoda Kodiaq Facelift

It was launched in 2017 and doesn't feel old yet, however, Skoda is testing the Kodiaq facelift with camo all around it, internationally. With changes such as slimmer all-LED Matrix headlamps and fancier tail lamps apart from resculpted bumpers, the Kodiaq facelift will be coming to India anytime soon under the India 2.0 Project of the manufacturer.
