Tata Altroz (5-star NCAP) Rear-ended by High-speed Truck, All Passengers SAFE

Ever since the Tata Nexon received a 5-star crash test rating at Global-NCAP’s testbed, carmakers are investing efforts to make safer cars. Tata Motors’ newest offering in the Indian market – Altroz is no different either. It comes with a 5-star crash test rating. There aren’t a lot of accidents of Tata Altroz reported till date, except for a few. However, here’s one that we came across via a YouTube video from the channel - Nikhil Rana. In the video, the YouTuber showcased the pictures of a crashed Tata Altroz when a truck rammed into it from the rear. As a result, the car suffered some major damages to the rear end. The tailgate, rear bumper, tail lamps, and rear windscreen are all damaged now. The occupants, however, walked out it without any injuries.

At the time of the accident, the Altroz was at a speed of 20 kmph, while the truck is said to be at a speed of around 70 kmph. Due to its high weight, the truck carries a lot of momentum. However, the Altroz absorbed the impact gracefully. To score a 5-star crash test rating, the Altroz comes packed with a lot of safety features. The list includes dual-front airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, rear parking sensors, collapsible steering column, front seat belts with load limiter and pre-tensioners, seat belt alarm, high-speed alert, ISOFIX child seat mounts, impact-sensing door unlock and more.

Speeding Truck Crashes into Tata Altroz, Keep Occupants Safe

The Altroz is offered with two engine options – 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel. The petrol motor boasts of a 3-cylinder layout with a peak power output of 86 PS and max torque of 113 Nm. The oil burner, on the other hand, puts out a rated power and torque output of 90 PS and 200 Nm, respectively. As of now, the Altroz is offered with a 5-speed manual transmission only, but a 7-speed DCT is in the pipeline. The dual-clutch unit will be offered with a 1.2L turbo-petrol motor that is likely to put out 108 PS of peak power against 140 Nm of max torque. Talking of the prices, the Altroz starts at Rs. 5.44 lakh and goes up to Rs. 9.09 lakh.
