Tata Altroz Ground Clearance Tested with 6 Passengers Aboard

Tata Altroz is one of the best looking cars in India. It has been doing really well on the sales chart in comparison to other products from the Tata stable. A big reason for that goes to its look and ride quality. The Altroz boasts of a low-slung stance, and it measures only 1,523 mm in height. To carve out adequate space inside the cabin, Tata Motors had to make it sit a little closer to the ground. Thus, it gets a low ground clearance of 165 mm, which is the lowest figure in its class. With all the occupants in place, the Altroz is expected to scrape its belly at most speed breakers. To find out if it really does so, we came across a video on YouTube.

The video showcases a Tata Altroz taking a ground clearance test with six passengers on board. This video was uploaded by R&R Vlogs Creation on their channel. In the video, the host starts by measuring the ground clearance of the Altroz via a measuring tape, which he claims is 9 inches. Then he asks six of his family members and a kid to sit in the Altroz. With everyone in place, he drives the Altroz on a ramp to showcase its ground clearance. Interestingly, the Altroz manages to climb up the ramp without scraping its belly. While this clip surely showcases that Altroz is not all that low, we appreciate the efforts of the host for nicely simulating the test.

As when the car is attempting the obstacle (ramp) here, the driver manoeuvres it in a slightly technical fashion. He attempts the obstacle diagonally, thus ensuring that the car has enough clearance all the time. This way, he also ensures that there’s always a wheel that is on the ramp. If he would’ve encountered it with wheels pointing straight, the nose and underbelly of the Altroz would’ve scraped. Also, another factor that helps the Altroz is its stiff suspension. With six occupants in place, the sag is very minimal. Therefore, Altroz manages to keep itself away from touching the ground in most cases.
