How good is the mileage and performance of a Tata Altroz petrol model in the hills? Here's the answer coming right from the owner of one of the examples

Tata Altroz is one of the best-looking premium hatchbacks that are on sale in the country today. The car was launched in January, earlier this year. Tata Motors launched the Altroz with 2 engine options – 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel. While the latter came from the Nexon, the former came from the Tiago and Tigor. The former is a 3-cylinder motor that belts out 86 PS of peak power and 113 Nm of peak torque. Here, not the numbers, but the number of cylinders raised a concern over the car’s real-life performance in hills. But, is it an issue? In the quest to answers this question, we came across a video on YouTube channel of VJ Auto Vlogs, which tells about the performance and mileage of Altroz petrol in hills.

The car in the video belongs to Kshitij Thakur, who hails from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. In the video, the owner shows that the Altroz cruises without much of a hassle on the hilly section of the road. Also, the car quickly overtakes the bus ahead of it, without any sweat. Interestingly, the RPMs do not exceed over the 4,000 mark. Talking of the fuel efficiency, the MID shows a figure of over 17 kmpl all through-out the journey.

Tata Altroz Performance & Mileage In Hills, Owner’s Take

Since the 1.2L Revotron motor on the Altroz is also used on the lesser Tiago and Tigor, it raised a lot of eyebrows for the real-life performance and NVH levels. However, to reduce the NVH levels, Tata Motors has added a secondary balancer shaft on this engine for the Altroz. Although, the performance remains un-exciting for the most part, and can be best described as adequate.

Talking of the diesel engine that Altroz comes with, it is rather powerful. It is based on the same unit as the Nexon. It puts out a peak power output of 90 PS and max torque of 200 Nm. The Altroz comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox only, irrespective of the engine option you choose to stay with. However, it would soon be getting a dual-clutch automatic transmission with a new turbo-petrol engine.
