Tata is developing an all-new mid-size sedan that will be launched after the introduction of the Tata HBX-based micro SUV.

Tata’s determination to conquer the premium B-segment sedan department has finally returned. The home-grown automaker had a great start in 2020 with the launch of the Altroz premium hatch and the Nexon EV. And now in its constant efforts to eat a bigger slice of the pie, the company is believed to introduce a sedan coded name Tata X452 that will come to us after the arrival of Tata HBX-based micro SUV. Here’s how the upcoming sedan version of Tata Altroz would look like, based on a speculative rendering from IAB’s digital illustrator Shoeb Kalania.

If the Tata Altroz sedan could ever make it to the real world, it will become the first sedan to be based on the ALFA-Arc platform. The styling design will play a crucial part in differentiating the Tata Altroz sedan from other models in the market. The sedan will inherit almost all the enticing design cues from the hatchback sibling.

As per the rendering, the front end of the B-segment sedan will be similar to that of the Altroz. The prominent changes are more apparent only from the C-pillars with a stretched rear section to get sedan-like proportions. The boot lid of the car has been redesigned as well, all the ways to give the sedan a more distinctive look compared to the donor vehicle. The tail lamps could appear in a sleeker style that takes inspirations from that of the E-Vision concept model showcased at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Mechanically, the mid-size sedan by Tata Motors will retain the powertrain options from the Altroz. It will share the same 1.5-litre diesel engine with the hatchback car, developing maximum power of 90 PS and a peak torque of 200 Nm. The petrol engine is expected to be a 1.2-litre turbocharged unit sourced from the Tata Nexon, which is capable of producing 120 PS of max power and 170 Nm of peak torque. Expect the sedan to be offered with a dual-clutch automatic transmission.
