What if Tata Motor introduces a sedan version of the Tata Altroz? Check out the rendering of the Altroz sedan here.

Tata Motors launched the Tata Altroz in January this year. The hatchback is one of the most anticipated launches of 2020 and is quite successful in capturing good sales numbers despite the current health crisis. With such impressive performance, there is a possibility that Tata might introduce a sedan version of the Altroz.

At the moment, Tata Motors has the Tata Tigor as its single offering in the sedan segment. In the past, the home-grown car brand had tried several times with models like the Indigo Manza and the Zest. However, none of these vehicles was strong enough to retain customer interest.

As for now, Tata Motors is putting a strong focus on the SUV and crossover segment. In the foreseeable future, Tata is planning to bring a new SUV and a crossover hatchback, Gravitas and HBX, to the market. Even though sedan is not Tata’s priority, it does not mean that Tata would stop trying its luck with the sedan space. In contrast, rumour has it that the Indian car manufacturer is working on developing a new sedan based on the Altroz. Codenamed X452, the new vehicle is expected to be a mid-sized sedan.

As of now, the information about this sedan is limited. However, with the help of the rendering technology and imagination, IAB’s rendering artist had created a sedan version of Tata’s future sedan based on the given visual cues from the existing Altroz.

Just like the Tata Tigor, which is the sedan’s version of the Tiago, the Altroz’s sedan is likely to share a lot in common with its hatchback sibling. The major distinctive difference of the sedan compared to Altroz is the extended boot. Other than that, it might get some slight updates including revised tail lamps and redesigned rear bumper.

About the engine part, it is likely that Tata Altroz sedan will carry the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the Altroz. While the former is capable of making a top power of 86 PS and a maximum torque of 113 Nm, the later puts out 90 PS and 200 Nm of maximum power and peak torque, respectively. These two engines are mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, which will be possibly available for the Altroz sedan as well. Tata Altroz is underpinned by the Alfa platform. The same structure is also expected to be employed on other vehicles of Tata’s future line-up. In this case, Tata Altroz sedan version will be the first sedan to use this platform.
