Sports Utility Vehicles are loved for their globe-trotting capabilities, boxy silhouette, and the roomy interior they offer. Although in the fast-moving world, SUVs have shed their originality to lure a wider range of audience. They are now available in almost all the sizes. But a true-blue body-on-frame SUV in the wild is a tough fight for new age compact SUVs. It can be seen here in this video as well, which was uploaded on the YouTube channel of Car Stories.

In the video, a Tata Nexon can be seen going over a rocky climb, followed by a Ford Endeavour. The Nexon struggles a bit and takes a few attempts before making it up to the top of the climb. However, the Endeavour just crawls over the surface with no signs of stress. Also, the Nexon requires inputs from the spotter to place its wheels in the best possible line. This way, the Nexon’s driver ensures that the front wheels do not lose the much-needed traction. The spotter also keeps a check that it is not scrapping its underbelly at any given point.

The Nexon gets a ground clearance of 209 mm, which is just a millimetre less than that of the Ford Endeavour. But the approach angle and the suspension travel act as a limitation for the Nexon. Also, the Nexon is a front-wheel-drive car with an open differential. Thus, if a front wheel of the Nexon runs out of traction, the car will start to roll back. This, however, is not the case with the Endeavour as it comes with a 4WD layout with a low-range transfer case.

Tata Nexon 'Hill Climb' Session With Ford Endeavour 4x4 - Video

Tata Nexon and Ford Endeavour share a price difference of almost Rs. 20.00 lakh.

Powering the front wheels of this particular Nexon is a 1.5L diesel engine that puts out 260 Nm of torque. The bigger Endeavour, on the other hand, boasts of a 3.0L power plant that produces 380 Nm of peak torque. These figures are more than enough than what is required to pull these SUVs up on the climb. However, the tyres and suspension of the Nexon, also act as a barrier in its climb to the top. Since it gets highway terrain tyres and the wheel articulation is also limited. While the Endeavour, on the other hand, gets chunkier 245-section all-terrain tyres and a solid axle at the rear, lending it with superior grip.
