Tata Nexon OUTPERFORMS Maruti Baleno In Braking Test - VIDEO

The brakes in a vehicle are probably the most important parts of it. It is more important for a vehicle to how fast it can decelerate than how quickly it can accelerate. As modern vehicles are more comfortable and capable of running at higher speeds, braking becomes even more important. Anti-lock braking system or ABS has become a common feature in cars now, and it is very much needed. ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and slippery surfaces. But ABS can also increase braking distances on loose surfaces like gravel or sand, though it will still provide better vehicle control. Also, ABS is an emergency safety measure, which means it won’t activate if you’re braking normally in your day to day driving. It will kick in when you have to decelerate quickly and suddenly, preventing the wheels from locking and skidding straight on. Today we have got a video which demonstrates how ABS works. 

The video has been uploaded by Rahul Choudhary on YouTube and shows an ABS braking test comparison from 60 kmph between the Tata Nexon and Maruti Baleno. The test is pretty rudimentary, with the braking marker being a rock and no data logging kits used. But even without them, the video clearly shows how ABS works. The Baleno is first to go and when it brakes at the set marker, you can see the car comes to a quick and very smooth halt. Next is the Nexon, when it starts braking at the marker you will notice that the wheels locked for a split second, but ABS kicked in immediately so it won’t skid and lose control. Even after that, the Nexon comes to a halt a couple of feet less than the Baleno. This difference is pretty negligible and if the comparison had more runs, then the gap would have been similar. 

The Maruti Baleno is powered by a 1.2-litre four-pot petrol which puts out peak power and torque figures of 83PS/115Nm respectively. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.  Prices for the Baleno prices range from Rs 5.70 lakh up to Rs 9.03 lakh.

The Tata Nexon is available in two engine options, a 1.2-litre turbo petrol or a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, both of them can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed AMT. Prices for the 2020 Nexon starts from Rs 7 lakh, with the top trim coming in at Rs 12.70 lakh. Do note all prices are ex-showroom, respectively.
