Here's the first set of pictures of the Tata Sierra Concept, when it was a clay model. See, how the development took place.
Tata Motors had a grand pavilion at the 2020 Auto Expo. The indigenous carmaker showcased a host of products on the expo floor, but the Sierra Concept took away all the limelight from the rest. The Sierra Concept brought back the memories of the old Sierra, and thus, everyone was excited to have an undisturbed glimpse of the car. While almost every soul present at the Auto Expo praised Tata Motors’ effort for planning a comeback of the Sierra, but only a few knew how tough it would’ve been for them. Here’s a set of pictures of Sierra Concept’s clay model, showcasing the exercise that went in to design the Sierra Concept.
To finalize a design, carmakers first work on a clay model of the car. The case was the same with the Sierra Concept as well. The perks of working over a clay model are that lines or the bulges can be tweaked again and again and this doesn’t involve expensive machinery. A set of experienced hands are required, instead. Most of the cars of Tata Motors are designed at the carmaker's design studio located in Turin, Italy. In case you are not aware, Turin is often referred to as the fashion capital of the world. Now you know why Tata cars have started to look all damsels suddenly.
Talking of the Sierra, it gets a 3-door layout, wherein there’s just one door on the right-hand side, and 2 doors on the left-hand side. Interestingly, the rear left door slides to open. To continue with the legacy of the original Sierra, this one too gets wraparound rear windows, which extend to the roof and merge with each other. In comparison the clay model, the Sierra Concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo featured a different rear scuff plate. However, there’s hardly any other change to talk of.
The Sierra Concept was showcased as an electric lifestyle vehicle with a powerful electric powertrain. It is underpinned by the ALFA platform, which also underpins the smaller Altroz. Tata Motors has been tight-lipped about Sierra’s specifications and the launch plans, but the manufacturer did reveal its dimensions. It measures 4,150 mm in length, 1,820 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height. The wheelbase, however, is measured at 2,450 mm.
