Ever wondered if a Tesla-like 10-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment unit can be retrofitted on a Maruti Baleno? Well, check out the details below

The craze for bigger touchscreen infotainment units is surely increasing among the Indian car buyers. We believe that Tesla has played a great role in starting this trend. More car owners are now opting for vertically-stacked infotainment unit in comparison to those fitted in landscape style. While some carmakers are adapting to larger displays for the OEM units, the largest carmaker of the country, Maruti Suzuki, continues to offer a 7-inch display. However, here’s a Maruti Baleno that now gets a massive 10-inch display that has been inspired from the unit seen on Tesla and Volvo models. As can be made out from the centre console, the Baleno in question here is a high-end variant that comes with automatic climate control system.

The 10-inch unit here runs on an Android-based operating system. It is basically an Android tablet which is designed to fit in most of the cars on sale in the country. Interestingly, it is flanked by a set of physical buttons. These buttons make it even easier to access various features of this aftermarket unit as the driver wouldn’t need to take the eyes off the road to control the infotainment unit throught the touch panel. It gets two stacks of buttons, while there are two rotary knobs to control the volume and the channels/tracks.

This infotainment unit is nicely designed to fit in the dashboard of the Baleno as it features special mountings that are specifically designed for this hatchback. Talking of the hardware, this unit offers 2 gigs of RAM and 16 GB of storage. Furthermore, it can support split-screen usage as well. Thus, the screen can show the music player in the top half of the screen and navigation and more in the bottom half. Since this unit runs on Android OS, it also supports video playback, image gallery, and other Android applications.

Talking of Maruti Baleno’s specifications, it is offered with a 1.2L K-series petrol engine. However, it is offered in two states of tune, thanks to the added power boost of a 48V mild-hybrid system. In the lower state of tune, this motor develops a peak power output of 83 PS, and in conjunction with mild-hybrid tech, it belts out 90 PS of max power. The torque output, however, remains the same at 113 Nm. The gearbox options on the Baleno comprise of a 5-speed MT and CVT, though, the latter is not available with the 48V mild-hybrid setup.
