Toyota Fortuner is a body-on-frame SUV and is quite fancied by the Indian audience. It is currently in its second-generation, which is way plusher and posher than the last-gen car. However, the first-gen Fortuner boasted of a rugged appeal. In comparison to the outgoing Fortuner, it donned an old-school design. Nevertheless, both, first and second-generation Fortuners are equally capable off the road. It is, although, the first-gen Fortuner that looks much better in the act. Thanks to its old-school charm. But here’s one, which has been modified to deal with the apocalypse.

This first-gen Fortuner in the pictures belongs to Vikram Dharam, who hails from Mysore, Karnataka. Talking of the modifications on his Fortuner, it now gets a custom radiator grille at the front, which is made up of metallic mesh. The headlamps too get the similar treatment. This has been done to protect the radiator and headlamp housing from damages when hitting the trails. The front bumper has also been removed to improve the approach angle.

The side steps are also removed to improve the ground clearance and break-over-angle of the car. A roof-top tent is fixed on the car’s top to enjoy camping at no added cost of a wildlife encounter. To access the tent, this modified Fortuner gets a step ladder fixed on the C-pillar. A cylindrical water tank is also fixed on the roof to have enough water supply on-the-go. The 3rd-row windows panes are now replaced with sheet metal to reduce the number of fragile parts on this rig.
