Its surprising when you realize that the Maruti Wagon R has been on sale in India for over two decades now. Though it never had the best aftermarket tuning scene, we have got a good one for you today.

When the Maruti Wagon R was launched for the first time in the country in the year 1999, it started the era of the tallboy hatchbacks along with the Hyundai Santro. Over its two decades on sale, it has remained one of the best selling cars in India. Consumers have loved its spacious interiors, frugal engine and attractive prices since its launch. The Wagon R has been a hugely successful car in any way you look at it. Though it is a huge seller, it comparatively doesn’t have the biggest aftermarket modifying community around it. Buyers purchase the Wagon R for its practicality rather than styling, so they don’t care much about modifying. Today, however, we have got this modified Wagon R for you which may sway your opinions.

As you will see in the pictures which have been uploaded by kl_05_m.m on Instagram, it is a second-generation Maruti Wagon R which has got a pretty thorough modification job done. You’ll immediately notice the slammed ride height, giving the Wagon R a vastly better stance at the cost of ground clearance. The car also gets a front splitter and side skirts while flared wheel arches have been bolted on. The front end is quite different with a new grille and a custom bumper. The rear gets blacked out taillights and a roof-mounted spoiler. The factory wheels have been replaced with a set of lightly dished alloys in a silver finish, giving it a contrasting colour to the really tasteful light blue shade of the car. Overall, this is a Wagon R which wouldn’t look out of place on the neon-lit streets of Japan.

Maruti now sells the third-generation Wagon R in the Indian market. It was launched in 2019 and is based on the new HEARTECT platform which also underpins the Swift, Ignis, Baleno, Ertiga and the Dzire. This means it will meet current and upcoming crash test norms while being bigger than the older model as well. Maruti has also updated the number of safety features the Wagon R now gets and is now on par with its segment rivals. It gets a driver’s side airbag (ZXi variants get dual front airbags), ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors, apart from other now-mandatory equipment. The top-spec Wagon R ZXi gets creature comforts like a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, electrically folding and adjustable ORVMS with inbuilt turn indicators, front fog lamps, a rear defogger, washer and wiper, and more.
