For 2021, there will be a few upcoming seven-seater cars in India, including the much-awaited Hyundai Alcazar, new-gen Mahindra XUV500 and more. Check out this list to find more details.

The biggest trend in the car market at the moment is the SUV models. Consequently, the Indian market has welcomed various new models to the market in the past few years, pushing the competition the sub-compact SUV and even the compact SUV to a new level. While these segments seem to get somehow saturated, the segment of bigger SUVs with seven-seater setting starts to pick up. Recently, we have seen a few new vehicles to enter this segment. And in the future, it is estimated that there will be a series of new seven-seater cars to hit the Indian market. Check out details of all upcoming 7-seater cars in India 2021.

Hyundai Creta 7-seater – Hyundai Alcazar

It is widely known that the second-largest car brand in India is working on developing a 7-seater version of their best-selling SUV – Hyundai Creta. Hyundai has announced earlier that the seven-seater of the Creta is named the Alcazar. It is expected that the Hyundai Alcazar will enter the market in the second haft of 2021.

At the moment, Hyundai has already presented in almost every sub-category of the SUV segment, including the sub-four-meter SUV (Hyundai Venue), compact SUV (Hyundai Creta), and full-size SUV (Hyundai Tucson). The launch of the seven-seater Hyundai Alcazar will fill the SUV range of Hyundai. It will be positioned between the Creta and the Tucson. On entering the market, Hyundai will take on the likes of Hector Plus and recently-launched Tata Safari.

In all likelihood, Hyundai Alcazar will share various styling and mechanical elements with the Hyundai Creta. However, it is obvious that the Alcazar will be larger than the five-seater version. It is expected that Hyundai will launch the Alcazar in both six and seven-seater configurations.

Similar to the Creta, the Hyundai Alcazar will be available with the same three engines, a 1.5-litre petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel and a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine. The 1.5-litre petrol engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine gets two transmission choices, a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The turbo-petrol engine is paired exclusively to a DCT.

New-gen Mahindra XUV500

One of the key launches of 2021 for Mahindra is the new-gen Mahindra XUV500. This model is also one of the much-expected upcoming seven-seater cars in India 2021. The new-gen XUV500 was expected to enter the market last year. However, due to the pandemic, the launch was delayed until this year.

For the new-gen version, Mahindra XUV500 will come with a revised platform, various exterior and interior updates, as well as many features and technology additions. The new model was spotted during testing for various occasions now. Under the hood, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will be powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that generates 180 BHP. The petrol version derives power from a 2.0-litre petrol unit that puts out 190 BHP and 380 Nm. The transmission options on offer include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor.

Mahindra Scorpio

Along with the launch of the new-gen XUV500, the homegrown car manufacturer will also roll out the new Scorpio. Similar to the new-gen XUV500, the new Scorpio also will get comprehensive changes for the interior and exterior. For example, the Scorpio will come with a new touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple Carplay support. It should be noted that the new Scorpio will borrow some elements from the Mahindra Thar including the instrument cluster, gear knob, steering wheel, control stalks and more. An important update of the new Scorpio is the revised ladder-on-frame chassis.

Jeep H6 SUV

Launching the seven-seater version of hot-selling SUV seems to be a growing trend in the automotive market. We have the Tata Safari launched as Tata Harrier seven-seater and the upcoming Hyundai Alcazar as the seven-seater version of the Hyundai Creta. Jeep will soon join the wagon with the Compass-based seven-seater model. Codenamed H6, the new seven-seater SUV will be based on the tweaked version of the Small-Wide 4x4 platform underpinning the Jeep Compass. The seven-seater model will be launched with a unique identity and will not be named after its sibling.

Ford C-SUV

Ford and Mahindra have formed a joint venture. As a part of this partnership, the two car companies will co-develop a C-segment SUV. The vehicle has been under development for a while now. According to some reports, the Ford C-SUV will be underpinned by the same platform used on the XUV500. It should be noted that each car brand will come up with a different version of the C-segment SUV with a unique design and identity. Ford C-SUV will be a six or seven-seater model with three rows. At launch, the new model will be positioned between the Ford EcoSport and the Endeavour. It is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol unit that is sourced from the Mahindra.

Kia Sorento

With only three models launched in India, Kia Motors has attracted a wide range of customers and gained a good reputation in the market. Following the success of the Kia Seltos and Sonet in the compact and sub-compact SUV segment, the South Korean car manufacturer is expected to launch the third SUV model in India. The new SUV will be a seven-seater model called Kia Sorento. It is expected to sit above the Kia Seltos and will take on other premium SUVs like the Jeep Compass. Details about this upcoming seven-seater car in India are limited up to this point. However, from what we have seen with the Kia Seltos and Sonet, it seems that Kia has a knack for making an attractive SUV that appeals to Indian customers.

Toyota-badged Ertiga MPV

Besides upcoming seven-seater SUVs, there are also other seven-seater MPVs that are about to hit the Indian car market. One of them is the Toyota-badged Ertiga MPV. Previously, Toyota has garnered certain success with their rebadged version of Maruti cars as a part of their partnership with Maruti like the Toyota Glanza and Toyota Urban Cruiser. Coming up next, Toyota will roll out the Toyota-rebadged Ertiga MPV in August 2021. Based on the previous experience with the Glanza and Urban Cruiser, we expect that there will be barely any other difference from the Maruti Ertiga except for the new badge and logos. It is expected to share the same powertrains from the Maruti Ertiga - a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with two gearbox options, a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic transmission.

MG G10 MPV

Based on the Maxus G10 on sale in the international market, the MG G10 MPV is one of the models showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. MG G10 is likely to be considered for the Indian market. If possible, it might hit the Indian market this year. Sharing the same platform with Maxus G10, the MG G10 MPV is likely to come into different seating configurations, including 7-seater, 8-seater or even 9-seater.
