The Toyota Fortuner has been dominating for the sub-Rs 50 lakh SUV segment for years now, but is it actually the best choice? Today we came across this braking comparison between the Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and the MG Gloster.

The Rs 30 – 40 lakh SUV segment has been dominated by the Toyota Fortuner ever since it entered the Indian market in 2009. The Fortuner has become the go-to choice in the segment due to its great road presence, multiple engine options and trademark Toyota reliability. Its biggest competitor has been the Ford Endeavour, which before the Fortuner’s arrival was the best-selling SUV in its category. The MG Gloster is a fairly new entrant and was the second product from the automaker to be launched after the Hector’s success. The Gloster brings a lot of segment-first features, including level 1 autonomous driving capabilities. Today we came across this video that pits all three SUVs in a braking test.

The video has been uploaded by Gaadiwaadi.com on YouTube. It is a 100 – 0 kmph braking test between the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and the MG Gloster. To maintain parity, markers were used at which braking would be applied for all the SUVs. The Gloster is up first and sets an impressive benchmark for what is a very heavy vehicle, with all three weighing around 2.5 tonnes. The Endeavour is up next and stops at a shorter distance than the Gloster. Lastly, the Fortuner is up and comes up to a stop very close to the Endeavour’s market, but the Ford wins it at the end by a tiny margin.

The Ford Endeavour is powered by a 2-litre turbo diesel that churns out 170 PS and 420 Nm of peak power and torque figures and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. In comparison, the MG Gloster on test here came with the 2-litre diesel in its twin-turbo configuration, making peak power and torque figures of 218 PS and 480 Nm, respectively. Transmission duties are carried by an 8-speed automatic. Prices for the Ford Endeavour range between Rs 29.99 - Rs 36.25 Lakh.

Prices for the MG Gloster range between Rs 29.98 lakh – Rs 36.08 lakh. It comes with a single 2-litre diesel unit but in two states of tune. In single-turbo form, it makes 163 PS/375 Nm of max power and torque. In the more expensive variants, the oil-burner comes with twin-turbos, helping it churn out max power and torque figures of 218 PS/480 Nm respectively. All variants come with 8-speed automatic transmission.
