Union Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari Ditches Toyota Fortuner for MG ZS EV

Nitin Gadkari was recently spotting being driven around Nagpur in an MG ZS EV. Earlier, he used a bullet-proof Toyota Fortuner, however, the minister is now promoting clean transportation with the help of electric SUV. Read more about it here.

Recently, India’s Union Minister for Ministery of Road Transport & Highways - Nitin Gadkari, ditched his bulletproof Toyota Fortuner for an MG ZS EV in Nagpur, Maharashtra. A few days back, Nitin Gadkari visited his hometown, and he was roaming around the city in the MG ZS EV. The bulletproof Toyota Fortuner was issued to him by the Maharashtra Government as he is a Z-Plus protectee. Nitin Gadkari was spotted getting out of the MG ZS EV that was in his convoy. His convoy consists of cars like the Mahindra TUV300, Toyota Fortuner and much more.

He said that he is promoting clean transportation with electric vehicles. He also talked about Ethanol and how it helps in the reduction of pollution. It’s not confirmed that the MG ZS EV used by Nitin Gadkari is his personal vehicle or it was acquired from EESL by the Union Minister to use in his hometown. He says that promoting an electric car in Nagpur will make the city cleaner in the near future. Back in 2019, Nitin Gadkari was present during the first roll-out of MG ZS EV in India from the automaker’s plant in Halol, Gujarat. Recently, MG Motors has launched the updated 2021 ZS EV in the Indian market.

The new model of the electric SUV is retailed at a starting price of Rs 20.99 lakh for the base model and goes all the way up to Rs 24.18 lakh for the top-end variant. The automaker has added a new battery, and it now rolls on 17-inch wheels. The updated MG ZS EV is offered with a 44.5kWh battery pack, which is resistant to dust and water. The battery pack powers a permanent magnet synchronous motor, which puts out 141 Bhp of peak power and 353 Nm of max torque. With an updated battery pack, the range of the SUV is now increased to 419 km. It can do a  sprint from 0-100 kmph in just 8.5 seconds. With the help of a standard home charger, it can be charged from 0 to 100 per cent in 6 to 8 hours only.
