Let's take a look at the upcoming cars in India in 2021 under the Rs. 20 lakh mark.

Indian automotive market is going through a big change right now. The upcoming BS6 norms have sent every manufacturer into a state of panic. Couple that to the increasing cost of vehicles, insurance, etc., and we have on our hands the recipe for a market slowdown. Still, SUVs have been selling quite well in our market, and new entries like Kia and MG have managed to gain a sizeable chunk on the market. Not only that, but other manufacturers are also using this slowdown as an opportunity to focus on bringing newer models to the market. Here is a list of the top upcoming cars in India 2021 under 20 lakhs.

Mahindra XUV300 Electric

Mahindra & Mahindra is working hard to revamp its entire model range before the BS6-compliance deadline hits the industry in April 2020. We have already had news of the test vehicles of various BS6-compliant Mahindra SUVs being spotted on road. Among these upcoming models will be a few EVs as well, including the Mahindra XUV300 Electric. The EV will be based on the current XUV300 compact SUV, which is available with petrol and diesel engines. The car will sport a 40 kWh battery pack with an expected range of 300 km. The maximum power output of the electric motor was stated to be around 130 PS, although the final figures will only be unveiled later. The pricing is expected to stay below Rs. 20 lakh mark.

Mahindra XUV500 (next-gen)

The upcoming next-generation XUV500 is perhaps the most anticipated Mahindra car of recent times. When it was first launched in 2011, the car had captured the hearts of automotive enthusiasts all over India with its “cheetah-inspired” design and powerful engines. The XUV500 was also Mahindra’s first SUV built on a monocoque chassis. The next-gen model is expected to be an improvement over the outgoing version, with a better, BS6-compliant engine. Safety will also improve the car, following in the footsteps of the Alturas G4.

Skoda Octavia

Apart from SUVs, Skoda will be also be focussing on its premium sedans in India. The most beloved Skoda sedan in our market, Skoda Octavia, has undergone a generation change internationally. The next-gen Octavia has begun production, and we expect to see the model arrive in India somewhere around mid-2020. Not only that, but we also expect the Octavia vRS to make its way to India as well, however, that one won’t be priced under Rs. 20 lakh!

Haval H6 (Great Wall Motors)

2020 Great Wall Motors Haval H6

Great Wall Motors of China has been trying to set up shop in India for a long time now. The Chinese marquee, it seems, has finally succeeded in entering our market, and its first product will be an SUV no less. Watching the success of Kia Seltos and MG Hector in India, it comes as no surprise that Great Wall motors want to try its hand at the SUV segment first. The Haval H6 is expected to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine. Prices are expected to hover around Rs. 15 lakh mark.

Citroen C5 Aircross

Last year, Citroen had announced their plans to enter the Indian market. Now, with the spy shots test model surfacing on the internet, we can be assured that the French manufacturer will launch will its first product next year, probably mid-to-late 2020. The C5 Aircross is available with four engines internationally; 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, 1.6-litre turbo-petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel, and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. While these engines are brilliant in themselves, the final product might have newer, more localised engines, to keep the cost down.

Isuzu D-Max 2021

Isuzu has been testing the new D-Max V-Cross in India many times now and the car is expected to hit the market sometime this year. Spy shots suggested that the upcoming Isuzu D-Max V-Cross won't get any big change in the styling design compared to the previous version. However, a host of new features will be brought to the upcoming model to make it more compelling. The Japanese carmaker will most likely retain the same 2.5-litre diesel engine in the D-Max V-Cross while updating the 1.9-litre diesel motor option. While the BS4 V-Cross was on sale in the range of Rs 15.32 - 20 lakh (ex-showroom), we expect the new D-Max V-Cross will sit at the same range so it will be one of the upcoming cars in India under Rs 20 lakh.

This concludes our list of upcoming cars in India in 2021 under 20 lakhs. If there are any cars that you want to see added to this list, please write it down in the comments below.
