Honda has established a strong product range of sedans in the Indian market with some popular models like Honda Amaze, Honda City, and Honda Civic. However, since the Honda SUVs. Earlier this year, Honda has launched the new-gen Honda City which has gained instant success in the market. Despite having some best-selling vehicles in the sedan segment, Honda will not limit itself to this segment. With the substantial growth of the SUV space, it comes as no surprise that Honda is expecting two upcoming models into this segment. Here are details about the two upcoming Honda SUVs in India 2021.

Honda Compact SUV

The first vehicles of the two upcoming Honda SUVs in India in 2021 is a sub-four-meter compact SUV. This compact SUV is expected to launch in its mother country in May 2021. Indian debut will follow afterwards, from around second haft of 2021 to early 2022. Rumoured to be named Honda ZR-V, the upcoming Honda compact SUV will be based on the Amaze platform. After hitting the Indian market, the Honda compact SUV will rival against the likes of Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and more.

Details about this upcoming SUV are scarce at the moment. Honda compact SUV is likely powered by a 1.0-litre VTEC turbocharged petrol which puts out 120 BHP and 173 Nm. Another possible engine option is the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It is possible that the new compact SUV will carry forward the hybrid powertrain introduced on the City Hybrid.

Honda mid-sized SUV

Besides the new sub-four-meter SUV, Honda is also working on an all-new Honda HR-V SUV. Scheduled to be revealed in March 2021, this model was spotted doing testing in India for a few occasions. Honda HR-V made its debut in 2014. It has been 6 years and Honda’s mid-sized SUV is due to get it generation updates. Compared to the outgoing model, the second-gen HR-V is expected to grow in size. It is suggested that the HR-V will measure around 4.4 meters in length.

According to some reports, Honda’s new-gen Honda HR-V will mark the debut of the Honda Global Platform. About the powertrain options, second-gen Honda HR-V is likely to go on sale with three choices of engines, a 1.5-litre i-VTEC, 1.5-litre VTEC Turbo, and 1.5-litre i-MMD e:HEV.

On the global market, Honda HR-V will compete against Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan Kicks and Jeep Renegade. Currently, this model is not available in the Indian market. Honda had scheduled for the HR-V to enter the market earlier but the plan was called off.

If launched in the Indian market, the Honda HR-V will face some challenges due to high prices. In order to fight against other rivals in the market like Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, Honda must increase the localization of this vehicle.
