Upcoming Tata SUVs In 2021 – Launch Date & Details

It’s common knowledge that the segment of SUVs is riding the high waves not only in India but also across the globe. And it’s also no news that every carmaker wishes to earn a piece of the tasty pie. Tata Motors is quite aggressive in its production strategies. In the challenging year 2020, the home-grown carmaker has hit the ground running for SUVs with the launch of updated Tata Harrier, Tata Nexon and Nexon EV facelift along with the introduction to the new Tata Safari. This year, Tata is planning to shed the veils off some other special products. Here’s a look at all the upcoming Tata SUVs in 2021 with launch timelines and details.

1. BS6 Tata Hexa

The next upcoming Tata SUV in India is the BS6-compliant Tata Hexa. Spy shots of the BS6 Tata Hexa have surfaced on the Internet a couple of times that suggest the imminent launch of the 7-seater car. For the initiated, Tata Motors has showcased the new Hexa at the Auto Expo 2020, in the form of the Tata Hexa Safari Edition.

The expected launch timeline of the Tata Hexa BS6 is around June 2021.

It is powered by a BSVI-compliant 2.2-litre 4-cylinder ‘Varicor’ turbocharged diesel engine with a 4x4 drivetrain system. This engine churns out 156 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque. The engine will come with either a 6-speed MT or a 6-speed AT and even an optional 4WD system for the manual variant.

We didn’t expect any other major change on the upcoming Tata Hexa SUV. Once launched, the BS6 Hexa will be Tata’s only body-on-frame 4x4 SUV. The expected price of the BS6 Tata Hexa will be around Rs 14 lakh mark (ex-showroom).

2. Tata Sierra

While the two earlier cars are the confirmed upcoming Tata SUVs in 2021, there are no official words on the launch of the Tata Sierra. However, it is expected that Tata will bring the Sierra to the daylight in late 2021 or early 2022. Also unveiled in its concept avatar at the Auto Expo 2020, the Tata Sierra is developed on Altroz’s ALFA platform and carries many signature design cues of the original.

While the 90s Sierra got a three-door setup, the displayed model also gets no rear door on the right side. The Sierra concept gets a lounge-like cabin with a rear bench-type seat. The details on the electric powertrain of the upcoming car are not revealed yet. The only details we get so far is that the dimensions of the new Tata Sierra will be 4,150 mm length, 1,820 mm width, 1,675 mm height along with the wheelbase of 2,450 mm. 3. Production-spec Tata HBX (Tata Hornbill)

It's not a true SUV, but the HBX is an important upcoming Tata car that's worth mentioning in the list. Tata previously unveiled the HBX concept micro-SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo and various reports have given speculations on the model since then. Said to be named Tata Hornbill, the upcoming Tata 'micro-SUV' will join the competition with the Maruti Ignis and Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

In all likelihood, the production-spec Tata HBX (Hornbill) is likely to be powered by a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that produces 86 BHP of power and 113 Nm of peak torque. This mill may come mated to a 5-speed MT and an AMT option.

As revealed by the company, the upcoming Tata Hornbill will be based on the brand’s Impact 2.0 Design philosophy and will retain 95% design cues from the concept model. It is expected that the Tata Hornbill will help Tata achieve its goal of grabbing a 10% market share in India PV space.

Tata Motors has recently outperformed Mahindra & Mahindra to secure the third spot on the podium with Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. With some highly-anticipated upcoming Tata SUVs on the cards, the company is stepping into 2021 with high optimism as well. Tata cars are scoring better and better in terms of design, features and safety in recent times. If the domestic-grown carmaker could enhance the aftersales network, Tata will have a lot of advantages to hog the limelight of its biggest rivals in the Indian auto space.
