VW Polo was the one of the first Indian cars to be tested by Global NCAP. Back then, its non-airbag model scored a Zero in the crash tests. However, the airbag-equipped version later bagged an impressive 4-star rating

VW Polo has been recently updated with a new BS-6 petrol motor. As a result, it now misses out on all the engine options, it was earlier offered with except for the 1.0L N/A petrol motor. However, with a new engine under its hood, it continues to look the same as VW has not updated the car’s styling. Therefore, it also carries over its amazing build quality. In case you don’t know, VW Polo was the first hatchback in the country to come with 2 airbags as standard fitment across the range. Thus, it can be considered as one of the safest and sturdiest cars to be on sale. Also, backing our statement up are a set of pictures here. The Polo in the pictures belongs to Chandan Kumar. According to him, he met with the accident while he tried avoiding a collision from the car in front of him. As a result, his Polo skidded a bit and when he tried to bring it back on the road with his fast reflexes, the car rolled over a few times. While the car suffered serious damage on the outside, the owner claims that the cabin space remained unaffected. It can be seen that the C-pillar, roof, bonnet, and front quarter panels have undergone serious deformation. But, the driver walked out of the car on his own, with a few minor injuries. Also, he claims that it was his best decision to invest in a VW car, which saved his life.

Talking of the Polos’s engine specifications, it can be had 2 engine options – 1.0L N/A petrol and 1.0L turbo-petrol. Both of these engines come with a 3-cylinder layout. The naturally aspirated motor produces a peak power and torque output of 76 PS and 95 Nm, respectively. The turbocharged unit, however, dishes out a peak power output of 110 PS and max torque of 175 Nm. While the N/A motor can be had with a 5-speed MT only, the turbocharged mill is available with a 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT.
