WATCH Ford Endeavour 2.0L vs Ford Endeavour 3.2L in Classic Tug of War Match

The trend of downsized, turbocharged engines is being followed across all the segments. Small sub-4m compact-SUVs have been sourcing power from small turbocharged engines for years now, and now Ford has started to use this formula with the massive Endeavour as well. In the BS-4 regime, Ford Endeavour was offered with a 3.2L, 5-cylinder oil burner. However, in the BS-6 avatar, Ford Endeavour comes with a smaller 2.0L, 4-cylinder diesel engine. The 3.2L unit was good at belting out 197 Bhp against 470 Nm. With the reduction in displacement, power and torque figures have dropped down to 168 Bhp and 420 Nm, respectively. But the question that remains unanswered is, which one of the two is powerful in real-world scenarios?

The above video packs the answer. It comes from the YouTube channel of Drive and Discover. In the video, two examples of Ford Endeavour can be seen. While the black unit is the BS-4 version of the Ford Endeavour, which gets the 3.2L engine, the white-coloured one is the newly-launched Sport trim of the SUV that comes with the smaller 2.0L oil burner. To find out which one is the more powerful of the two, the host ties them up using a tow strap and then conducts a game of tug of war. He conducts a total of 4 rounds to reduce the chances of error. The first round is conducted on a loose surface, and to everyone’s surprise, the smaller 2.0L engine took the lead here. The next attempts were made on a tarmac road.

In the next two attempts, the newer Sport trim had a lead over the bigger 3.2L motor. For the fourth attempt, the drivers were swapped to see if it makes any difference. Like earlier attempts, the 2.0L had an edge over its bigger counterpart even in this round. While the 2.0L turbo-diesel is the smaller engine here, it comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox here. The 3.2L workhorse, on the other hand, gets a 6-speed AT. Hence, the 2.0L engine puts out power in a much more usable fashion in comparison to the 3.2L oil burner. Talking of the prices, Ford retails the Endeavour at a starting price of Rs. 29.99 lakh.
