Recently, a stuck Mahindra XUV500 AWD was rescued by a new-gen Thar, which has been recorded in a recently released video. Read on for more details.

Being one of the most affordable off-road SUVs in the Indian auto market, the Mahindra Thar received a new generation last month. Since its launch, the design, performance and capability of the new SUV have frequently become a topic of discussion on the Internet. The new-gen Thar has already been sold out until May 2021. Several videos have been published on the Internet to show the capabilities of the new Thar. Below is a video which showcases a new Mahindra Thar rescued an XUV500 which got stuck in the mud.

Uploaded on Zeryeen11’s Youtube channel, the video starts by showing the Mahindra XUV500 which got stuck in the river bed. The SUV is a W11 AWD version which has been discontinued in the Indian auto market. All of its four wheels were stuck in the pit. The driver vigorously turned the steering wheel to the left and then to the right, but in vain. Later, an excavator was found nearby and was used to rescue the XUV500. A small piece of rope was tied to the excavator scoop to pull the XUV500. However, the rope was so thin that it broke after several seconds and the XUV500 was even more badly stuck in the mud.

Later, an all-new Mahindra Thar arrived and was parked in front of the XUV500. A thick tow rope was taken out from its boot and was tied to the XUV500. The Thar started to pull the XUV500 out of the mud. Firstly, plenty of wheel spin appeared but after several efforts, the Thar managed to rescue the XUV500 from the mud.

After several initial efforts, the Mahindra Thar has finally managed to rescue the XUV500 from the mud.

You may wonder why despite being an AWD vehicle, the Mahindra XUV500 could still so badly get stuck in the mud. The reason is that the XUV500 is an SUV which can do soft-roading but is not for hardcore off-roading. The XUV500 lacks a proper 4x4 low ratio gearbox which is available on the new Thar. The heavyweight is also another contributory factor to the XUV500 getting stuck. Moreover, the XUV500 also has a longer wheelbase than that of its sibling, which explains why it can easily get stuck on the river bed.

The new Mahindra Thar is underpinned by an all-new platform. The vehicle is a breakthrough from the outgoing model with some features that had never been seen on the SUV before. The new Thar is packed with a touchscreen infotainment system, roof-mounted speakers, factory-fitted hardtop, and front-facing rear seats, etc. The SUV receives its power from both petrol and diesel powertrain options: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel unit.
