Mahindra XUV500 is quite a capable car even in its 2WD iteration. Don't believe us? Take a look at this video.

Mahindra XUV500 was launched for the first time in the country in the year 2011. The crossover received a warm response from the Indian audience. The demand for the XUV500 was so high that Mahindra had to allot the cars to the buyers via a lottery system. Similarly, the XUV500’s on-road and off-road capabilities as a high-riding crossover were great as well, and they still help it excel in most terrains. We recently came across a YouTube video from the channel of Explore the Unseen 2.0, where the host is seen taking over the bad roads (nearly inexistent) with his XUV500. This video was recorded in October this year, while he was on his way to Chandrataal.

In the video, the XUV500 can be seen taking dirt trails, massive craters and more with ease. The trick which the host uses here is that he attempts the obstacles slowly. He does so where he thinks that he will not run out of traction. But in loose surfaces and sandy patches, he uses the momentum as his tool to ensure that he is not stuck. Considering the fact that it is the 2WD trim of the Mahindra XUV500, its performance off the road is appreciable. Although, the XUV500 was offered with an AWD layout, but in the top-spec trim only. In the BS-6 iteration, however, Mahindra has chalked-off the AWD variant from the list. While it wasn’t a heavy-duty 4x4 system as seen on the most ladder-frame SUVs, it is quite capable.

Currently, the Mahindra XUV500 is offered with a 2.2L 4-cylinder oil burner that develops a peak power output of 155 PS and max torque of 360 Nm. The transmission choices on the XUV500 include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The suspension duties on the Mahindra XUV500 are performed by McPherson struts up-front and a multi-link setup at the rear. Also, it gets anti-roll bars at both ends. Prices for the Mahindra XUV500 start at Rs. 16.19 lakh and top out at Rs. 19.30 lakh. Talking of its rivals, Mahindra XUV500 competes against the likes of Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and more.
