Suzuki Jimny is being displayed at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). What are the differences between the Indonesia-spec and the Japan version?

After being introduced in the Japanese market, the fourth-gen Jimny has made it to Indonesia with the launched at 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Suzuki also confirms that the new Jimny will be locally assembled in Indonesia. Indonesia-produced Jimny will be exported to other ASEAN countries like Thailand.

In Japan, Suzuki Jimny is available with two variants – the standard models and the Sierra. It is announced that only the Sierra will be brought to Southeast Asia. The Sierra is powered by a 1.5-litre K15B petrol motor which could kick in 102 PS of peak power and 130 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions.

Indonesia-spec Jimny will have some minor tweak from the Japan version. For example, it will have a thicker bumper and cladding on the car body. And moreover, the models showcased at the GIIAS doesn’t have the touchscreen infotainment system as in the Japan-spec model. It is replaced with a 2-DIN audio head unit which is brought from the Indonesian Ignis. It is still unclear if the Sierra will come with RWD or AWD. An all-wheel-drive system might cause the price to rise, which conflicts with the promise of a competitive price. However, it is the off-road ability that makes the car outstanding.

Event 2018 Suzuki Jimny is receiving attention from the Indian customers, it is still not confirmed yet if the new Jimny will arrive at the Indian market.
