The Tata Nexon is the first home-grown Indian car to achieve 5 stars for adult occupancy in the Global NACP crash test.

The Tata Nexon had been tested before earlier this year and got a four-star rating in the adult protection category. Since then, some alterations have been made to the vehicle, which has raised the rating of the vehicle to 5 stars. This improvement can be associated with the addition of standard seatbelt alert for both the driver and front passengers across all the variants. The changes were made to the after-December-7-2018 models; therefore, the results are only valid for these vehicles.

Commenting on the Nexon’s remarkable performance in terms of safety, David Ward, Secretary General at Global NCAP stated,

“This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India’s first five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The Nexon was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata has shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can 'Make in India'.”

Despite an improvement in adults’ protection, the result for children’s protection remained the same with a 3-star rating. This result can be ascribed to the Tata Isofix CRS in the rear which is forward-facing installed and can provide a quite good protection for the children’s head, but limited protection for their chest.

The Nexon has also satisfied all the requirements of the UN95 side impact protection. Tata equips dual airbags and ABS across all Nexon variants and the ISOFIX points in only the XZ+ and XZA+ variants.

The improved safety ratings of the passenger vehicles in India show that the Global NCAP tests implemented on cars here are bringing good results. This has been acted as an incentive for Indian auto manufacturers to produce safer cars which can provide better protection for the passengers in case of a collision.
