Though brand new cars that have relatively low mileage can go a few years without being serviced, it is highly recommended that you take your car out for service regularly.

Whether you decide to have your car serviced or not is totally your choice as there are no rules or laws that say you must do it every year or once every three months. However, servicing your car on a regular basis is a great way to make sure that there is nothing wrong with your car. To make it easier to understand, it can be said that the role of servicing to car’s performance is the same as the role of a checkup to human’s health. If you do not have the habit of servicing your car, you risk deteriorating and damaging your vehicle.

It is necessary to have your car serviced on a regular basis

1. Cost-effective

The first advantage of servicing your car on a regular basis is that you can save some money in the long run. While this may seem quite counter-intuitive, the truth is that regular servicing would find problems with your car when they are still new, minor, and easy to fix. When the minor fault turns into a major problem, the repair cost could rocket and become extremely expensive. For instance, we all know that engine oil is essential in making a car’s engine operate properly and smoothly. If the car runs with little or no oil, chances are that you are damaging your engine for good and you may have to pay a large sum of money to have the engine replaced. If you are diligent with your car servicing duty, the mechanics can check the engine oil and replace it, if necessary, for a small fee.

Another reason why regular servicing is cost-effective is that when your car has clean air filters, inflated tyres, and new oil, the engine performs better and consumes less fuel. Therefore, you can save some money on fuel.

2. Safety

Faulty brakes, faulty windshield wipers, or over-worn tyres are three of the many reasons why a car is the cause of accident. The denominator of these problems is that they are results of normal wear and tear and they can totally be prevented from wreaking havoc. A normal car service detects these faults and fixes them before they become real issues.

You may brush the advice of taking your car for a service on a regular basis off with the excuse that you do not feel anything weird with your car and it is running just fine. But here is the thing: your unawareness of your car’s problems is not synonymous with it actually being okay. Whether you drive your vehicle every day or once a week, deterioration still happens. It is highly likely that the degeneration occurs without your knowing, deceiving you into thinking that there is nothing wrong with your car while there actually is something not right. So, take your car for a service on a regular basis for your own safety. If you insist on not servicing your car often, there is the risk of a sudden breakdown or accident and you need to take it into consideration.

3. Resale price

In the used car market, potential buyers are always nervous that they may purchase a car that has latent faults that they are not aware of and those faults either will cost them a lot of money to repair or put them in dangerous situations. So they are interested in looking for proof that the car they are interested in is safe and worth the money. A vehicle with a well-documented history of regular servicing, especially the servicing that is carried out in authorised or well-known centres, stands a higher chance of attracting more potential buyers and acquiring a higher resale price.
