To have your car registered, you should do the following steps:

  • Step 1: Temporary Registration: The car dealer where sells the car will give the temporary registration for you.

  • Step 2: Permanent Registration: Permanent registration is required after getting temporary registration issued.

Types of car registration charges in Delhi

When it comes to car registration, the vehicle owner normally has to pay for:

  1. Registration charges: Rs 600 for every type of vehicle despite its value.

  2. Hypothecation charges: is about Rs 1500 in case of the vehicle is bought on a loan.

  3. Number Plate (HSRP): costs from Rs 230 to Rs 400

  4. State Development Charges (MCD Parking Fee): Rs 2000 for vehicles under 4 lakh and Rs 4000 for any other vehicle.

  5. Temporary Registration: costs from Rs 1200 to 1500 with validation of one month.

  6. Road Tax: varies from 4% to 15.625%. In specific, the owner registered vehicles under individual names will be charged from 4% to 12.5% while the owner of registered vehicles under company names has to incur 5% to 15.625%.

  7. FasTag: costs from Rs 500 to Rs 600 and is payable at the time of buying a vehicle.

New Car Registration Charges in Delhi 2020:

The RTO registration charges in Delhi is a sum of money that has to be paid as per the cost of the vehicle. With a price of up to Rs 6 Lakh, a new car requires 4% tax for petrol and 5% tax for diesel. In details:

  • Cars that are priced from Rs 6 Lakh to Rs 10 Lakh will be charged 7% tax for petrol and 8.75% for diesel.

  • For all cars above Rs 10 Lakh mark, the petrol-powered models are charged 10% while the diesel models are charged 12.5%.
